Since 2013, the HSICF has put an emphasis on early education while continuing to grow our food program. This is most evident in Operation B.O.O.K. – which calls on the HSICF to build and support new schools in rural areas that we serve. This year we added another feature to our programs - the Student of the Month in which a student from each classroom in Tanzania and Cambodia is selected and introduced to you. The students are selected based on attendance, completion of tasks, participation level, among other criteria. The students of the month receive a small gift to mark their success in the classroom.
The inaugural winners of the HSICF Students of the Month:
Meserani Rainbow School (Arusha, Tanzania)
John Miliari is seven years old. His favorite color is black and his favorite subject in school is PE. John lives with his family in a village called Lovi. It takes him about one hour to walk to school each day. His favorite thing about the Meserani school is the daily meal he receives as part of HSICF’s meal program and playing with his friends. When he’s not in school, he helps take care of the goats, sheep and cows for his family.
Winifrida Saibabau is seven years old. Her favorite color is blue and she loves learning English. Winifrida lives about 40 minutes from school with her mother and father. At home, she helps take care of many household chores. When she grows up she wants to be a teacher. Some of her favorite things about the Meserani School are the rice and fruits she receives from HSICF’s meal program and playing on the swings with her friends.
Your gift of $20 a month can help feed and educate children like John and Winifrida in Tanzania and Cambodia. Your small gift will help make a big difference!
