6th Annual Benefit Dinner
Enriching Lives through Education a Major Success
On October 24, 2014, the Han-Schneider International Children’s Foundation held its 6th Annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction at the beautiful Taglyan Cultural Center in Hollywood, CA. The event was hosted for the second year by actor Kevin John who brought his comedic timing and storytelling to inject energy into the evening’s program.
This year’s theme, Enriching Lives through Education, highlighted HSICF's 2014 initiative Operation B.O.O.K. – Bringing Opportunity to Our Kids. This initiative is a multi-year project to provide more educational opportunities for our children by building and operating new preschools in rural Cambodia and further developing the Meserani Mission Center in Tanzania.
The evening began with a cocktail hour where guests were treated to passed hors d'oeuvres while they perused the silent auction display, which included items donated by companies such as Disneyland, Sanrio, Warner Bros., Bouchon, Newport Seafood Restaurant, Blue Man Group and Jabbawockeez. The attendees were then escorted into the main ballroom where they were welcomed by Kevin John. Director of Operations Zachary Lopez then came on stage to review the highlights of the year for the foundation, including the building of the first preschool in Balang Village, Cambodia through Operation B.O.O.K.
Following Mr. Lopez’s presentation, Executive Director Arthur Han spoke in detail about Operation B.O.O.K. and challenged the guests to become monthly donors to help support the ambitious goals laid out in the initiative which include the building of two more preschools in Cambodia and a vocational school at the Meserani Mission Center. In total, nearly 100 attendees took the pledge to become monthly donors and make a meaningful difference in a child’s life.
During a delicious family-style dinner, guests were treated to a speech by special keynote speaker Reverend Joel Kim, who is the founder of Agape Ministries and our partner in North Korea for the orphanages. He spoke about the increase in the number of orphans served under the HSICF’s North Korea food program and how it's made a major improvement in the children’s health and energy. Rev. Kim said that the progress is so significant it has been noticed by North Korean officials who have asked him and the HSICF to undertake even more orphanages.
This year's 6th Annual Benefit Dinner & Silent Auction was the most attended benefit dinner in the foundation’s history, raising more than $45,000 for its programs in North Korea, Cambodia and Tanzania. We want to express our appreciation to everyone who helped make this event possible and to those who attended. Your charity and support allows us to continue to spread joy to all of our children around the world.
Thank you and we hope to see you all again next year!
