5th Annual Benefit Dinner & Silent Auction

"Spreading Joy through Compassion"

A Banner Night for HSICF
More than $50,000 raised!

On October 18, the Han-Schneider International Children’s Foundation held its 5th Annual Benefit Dinner & Silent Auction at the beautiful Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, Calif. More than 300 friends, family members and supporters attended the event. In keeping with this year’s theme, Spreading Joy through Compassion, the evening focused on the happiness and joy of our children through the positive impact of our programs, all possible by the compassion and generosity of our supporters and sponsors.

The evening began with a cocktail hour where guests were treated to passed hors d'oeuvres while they perused over 90 items on display for the silent auction. Then attendees were escorted into the main ballroom where they were welcomed by actor and comedian Kevin John, who served as master of ceremonies for the night. Mr. John brought his unique style to the program by injecting fun energy to help highlight the celebration. Director of Operations Zachary Lopez then came on stage to review the highlights of the year for the foundation, including the passage of the North Korean Child Welfare Act, the expansion of all programs and exceeding the foundation’s Topple Hunger goal of serving one million meals in 2013. Following Mr. Lopez’s presentation, the group who traveled to Tanzania as part of HSICF's humanitarian trip back in March were invited on stage where a select few shared a few words about their amazing experiences. Executive Director Arthur Han also spoke about the upcoming trip to Cambodia in March 2014 and issued an open invitation to anyone interested in joining. If you are interested in the trip and want more information, please contact

During a delicious family-style dinner, guests were treated to a speech by special keynote speaker Steve Morrison, who is the founder of MPAK, an organization helping to facilitate adoption in Korea. His touching story about his life and work, which parallels that of HSICF’s founder Sang Man Han’s, really helped to highlight the theme of the night.

In a surprising turn of events, fitness guru and pop culture icon Richard Simmons came on stage to tell of his philanthropic endeavors and pledged $10,000 to the Han-Schneider International Children’s Foundation! The evening concluded with a raffle drawing and an exciting live auction featuring a tropical vacation to Cabo San Lucas and L.A. Lakers tickets.

This year's 5th Annual Benefit Dinner & Silent Auction was the most successful night in the foundation’s history, raising more than $50,000 for its programs in North Korea, Cambodia and Tanzania. We want to express our appreciation to everyone who helped make this event possible and to those who attended. Your charity and support allows us to continue to spread joy to all of our children around the world... so thank you!

We hope to see you all again next year!
