Welcome to May's Debt Justice Activist Network newsletter!
It’s relaunch week! On Monday 16th we officially changed the name of our organisation from Jubilee Debt Campaign to Debt Justice (yes, the Debt Justice Activist Network got there first). If you missed the launch event, you can watch it here.
Recent News
Stop BlackRock
Last month many of you were involved online and on the ground in our day of action against the financial giant BlackRock. Thank you so much for taking action.
With Zambia going into talks with the global fund manager, it’s crucial that we keep up the pressure and call on BlackRock to #CancelZambiasDebt.
Watch this space to find out how you can get involved in the next stage of the campaign.
Debt and the climate crisis
We know that countries in the global South urgently need debt cancellation to fight the climate crisis, and now the IPCC is saying it too.
In their report published last month, some of the world’s leading climate scientists called for debt cancellation so countries are better able to fight the crisis. Read our new blogpost to find out more.
The UK’s personal debt crisis
Half of UK adults are now either in debt or concerned about falling into debt. The pandemic and now the cost of living crisis have seen debt levels shoot up, and it’s time our politicians did something about it.
Finally, if you don’t already support us with a regular gift, now is a great time to start as we’ll be giving away free tote bags with our new logo on them to all new regular givers as part of the relaunch. Every action we take together from signing petitions online to coming to events, or sharing our campaigns with your family and friends makes a real difference in our campaigns for debt justice.
