Give Yourself A Lift This Winter

With the holidays just around the corner, many of us are   busy shopping, making gifts and baked goods, and  decorating for the season. By the time the ornaments are packed and the red and green give way to our “normal” décor…and we’re recovering from the seasonal mayhem... many people feel their homes are “blah” or “dull.”  And, our rainy, gray days don’t help.

It doesn’t have to be that way!

Clairmont Custom Draperies & Décor has many options to spruce up your home and fight the winter blues.  And, many of these ideas do not cost a lot, yet make a huge difference.

Consider WINDOW TREATMENTS to change the feel of your room, knowing that just a change of color and pattern around your windows will create a different mood. You can change your draperies or curtains. If you’re happy with them, consider changing your blinds or shades. These can not only change the look of your room, but they can be also save you on hydro.

Even just a change to the hardware can make a difference in a room.  Clairmont Custom can even order curtain rods with powder coating to match wall colors or fabric, and rods can be custom-shaped for bay windows.

In addition to Window Treatments, consider your accessories.

Pillows, runners, place mats, throws, and tablecloths are also among the “little things” you can change to make a room look different.  The best part is that you can
pick your fabric; and for little things, ask Donna about remnant fabric to save a few bucks.

If that’s not enough to spruce up your room and mood, consider a ROOM MAKEOVER.  If your bedroom isn’t a sanctuary that makes you feel good to nestle and relax, then call us for a complimentary consultation. A change of your bedding, window treatments and accessories can make you feel like you’re on vacation in your very own home.

To make it easy to make a change and reflect your style, Clairmont Custom Draperies has hundreds of fabric choices right at the Comox showroom.

Just make an appointment with Donna at the showroom or at your home, so you can get fresh ideas and brainstorm what will best work in your situation, considering your style and your budget.

Remember--You can buy a lot of fabric and custom design work from Clairmont for what you’ll save on a plane ticket…yet you will enjoy it every day!!

French Toast Casserole

Here is an easy dish to make in advance and just pop in the oven (or microwave if you’re in a hurry).   It’s a perfect time-saver for Christmas breakfast!

1 loaf of stale wheat or white bread, cubed (as if making turkey stuffing)
3-4 eggs
5 cups of milk
1 tablespoon vanilla (or more to taste)
½-1 cup of sugar or splenda
Raisins or chopped apples
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Nutmeg, optional

Cube the bread, as if making stuffing. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, add milk and other ingredients. Pour over the bread cubes and stir or toss with hands to be sure all bread is saturated. (If your bread is not good and soggy, mix a bit more of the liquid mixture and add to it, tossing to ensure all bread is wet.)

Pour wet bread mixture into a sprayed casserole dish (9 x 13 or large round). Cover with foil and bake approximately 1 hour at 350 degrees. Check with a knife to be sure it’s pretty dry.  Remove foil, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top and put back in oven for 10 minutes.

This dish is delicious served hot or cold. Many enjoy topping with  butter and maple syrup or yogurt.
