Summer/Fall  2021
Welcome to Granite City Folk Society's 2nd virtual concert season.
The pandemic is being more stubborn than any of us anticipated, so
the Society's Fall concerts will remain virtual at least until
January of 2022(!), when we hope to return to in-person concerts.
Meanwhile, look for our
on-line concerts
on Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 PM CST

Our artists will be performing via streaming services.
These streaming platforms will vary, so note the links for the individual events.

There is no ticketing for these performances,
but the artists will be operating their own virtual tip jars.
Be generous--we're all running on fumes these days.

Thank you for being with us
through this crazy year.

We hope to get back to live-in-person concerts after the 1st of the year.

Danny Schmidt & Carrie Elkin
Thurs, Sept 30. 7:30

Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin are based in Austin, TX, but their record label, Red House, makes them honorary Minnesotans. They perform and record as soloists and, as they will for us, as a duo. An evening with either one is worth catching; together they promise more than double the fun. Fun squared? Except that they're the opposite of square.

"Schmidt is a stellar poet and musician, and media comparisons to a string of legends are not amiss. He's too original and too good for a mere cult following." --Dirty Linen Magazine

"[Danny Schmidt] might very well be the medieval love child of Ani Difranco and Tom Waits." --WORT, Madison, WI

"With beautifully crafted, lonesome pines music and complex beguiling words, he would've fitted neatly on the bill at any '60s coffee house alongside Townes Van Zandt or Leonard Cohen." --Q Magazine

"Carrie is a fantastically warm singer...a master of conveying the message and emotions of her characters" --Fish Records (UK)

"I'm thinking Patty Griffin, Nanci Griffith and Iris DeMent." --Bob Harris, BBC Radio

Special thanks go out to our season sponsors, GrandStay Residential Suites, Bo Diddley’s Deli, and CMAB for their generous support.

GrandStay provides first class overnight accommodations for our musician guests.

BoDiddley’s Provides food & beverage for our musicians and an intimate setting for 90% of our concerts.

Donations are tax deductible and offer donor recognition & thanks. This is not a profitable enterprise. Our ticket sales typically do not quite cover musician compensation, much less printing, advertising, theater rental, insurance, etc., etc. We have in recent years been fortunate to receive modest grants to help defray expenses, we have received in-kind donations from our season sponsors, and we have also enjoyed increasing support from patrons such as yourself. Collectively, these are the pieces of the financial puzzle that keep our boat afloat. Please consider a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible.
