Client company EcoPesticides and the USDA are partnering to fast-track development of "green" pesticides.
Under the CRDA - Cooperative Research Development Agreement - with USDA, EcoPesticides will develop technologies to protect natural pesticides from damaging UV rays.The project specifically targets grasshoppers and other insect pests. Read more.
As we went to press, SFBI client company Vizzia Technologies received notice of a VAF 
(Venture Accelerations Fund) award from LANL. The funding, one of four awarded, assists in taking innovation to market more quickly. Vizzia is a healthcare technology company that uses sensor systems and its proprietary software and analytics methodology to improve the safety, compliance and efficiency of healthcare workflow.

The VAF is a collaborative investment established by Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS).This year LANS, along with Los Alamos County, New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and Santa Fe County and the City of Santa Fe are investing in the economic health of New Mexico via their support of growth-oriented companies. Congratulations to Sigma Labs, Incwho launched it's 3-D Metal Printer and Proprietary Software on April 14, 2015. 
Guests, VIPs and the press were present for a ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the 3-D print lab. Pictured below, upper left: Sigma founders and staff; upper right: Patricia Knighten, Manager of the Office of Science and Technology, New Mexico Economic Development Department; Mark Cola, Co-founder, President and CEO Sigma Labs; and Simon Brackley, President Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Javier M. Gonzales (pictured below, right) proclaimed it "Advanced Manufacturing Day" in Santa Fe.  Sigma Labs makes its 3-D printer available to entrepreneurs across the state and country. (Few 3-D printers are publicly accessible across the country and there is none other in New Mexico.)

Daisychain USB, a participant in the Fall '14 Startup Weekend launched their kickstarter campaign recently. Since participating in Startup Weekend, this company has completed its full patent application, built a 3-D print model, identified factories in New Mexico and resigtered "Portkey" as a trademark.
Santa Fe County business owners joined local resource providers May 5th for a networking and information event aimed at increasing business in rural areas.
