CS Researchers: The Next Generation

CS Area Postdoc Symposium, January 30-31 9am-3:30pm, Wang Hall, Building 59, room 3101

Do you know what postdoctoral fellows are working on at the Lab? Here's your chance to find out. Twenty-two postdocs from the Computing Sciences Area have been chosen to showcase their research in a symposium to be held 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Thursday and Friday in Wang Hall (Bldg. 59), Room 3101. Come learn what next-generation researchers are doing in exascale computing, machine learning, data management and analysis, modeling and simulation, computer networking, quantum computing, and more. Can’t be there in person? Attend remotely:

Jonathan Carter has been named ALD (associate lab director) for Berkeley Lab's Computing Sciences Area.
Too much stress can cause cracks in some cathodes and degrade battery performance, simulations run at NERSC helped reveal.
ESnet staff attended the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid and LHC Open Network Environment joint meeting in Geneva.
Fusion researchers are zeroing in on the causes of heat loss in spherical toruses using simulations done at NERSC.
Podcast: Lenny Oliker and Kathy Yelick, co-PIs of the Exabiome Project, discuss metagenomic analysis at Exascale.
A JGI study published in Nature used NERSC resources to help reveal that large and giant viruses abound on Earth.
