Naturalist Vicki is putting together a great slate of speakers and activities. Check out our website for updated information. http://www.dohenystatebeach.org
Visitor Center & Aquarium Hours
The Visitor Center/Aquarium is currently open Friday-Sunday 10-4 . Come on in and meet our two Morey Eels. Moray eels are known for their slithering snake-like appearance, but they spend most of their time hiding in rocks and crevices. Morey eels are nocturnal and have few predators and have been found to work together with the grouper fish at times to hunt. The grouper will come in and shake its head vigorously at a moray eel, signaling that it wants help feeding. The moray eel swims with the grouper and traps the fish. Teamwork!
DOHENY STORE POP UP is located on the boardwalk just north of the bike rental. We are open Friday, Saturday & Sunday 10-4 (weather permitting). Stop by and say Hi and get your favorite Doheny goods and gear. (Pictured Board of Directors, Kip & KC Kinnings and Donna Kalez, Volunteer Sue Simpson) Photo by Tom Baker at the Surf & Art Fest.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Doheny Surf & Art Fest June 25 & 26th. It was an amazing weekend filled with great weather, beautiful art, fantastic music and good food and beer. Thanks to our sponsors Mike Ahumada/RE MAX, St Joseph's Providence/Mission Trauma Center and Los Molinos Beer Company. Also thanks to our volunteers and Park staff for helping to make it such a great success.
Providence Mission Hospital participated in the California Parks Week - Health & Wellness Day with their "Save the Brain" campaign and handed out free sport helmets for youth ages 2 to 17. At the event, they handed out their 1,000 helmet to a 9 year old from Riverside. Trauma bicycle injuries have tripled over the past 3 years and it is their mission to get our youth used to protecting their heads and our hearts while out having fun.
Board President KC Kinnings wanted to share this quote:
"There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind."
