Goes Back to the Classroom

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star“I had a blast but — whew! — was I exhausted by the end of the day," said Superintendent Dr. Stella M. Kemp after a day covering Paraprofessional Jackie Hall's job!

On November 15, Superintendent Kemp spent the day at Westwood Elementary School, but this wasn’t an ordinary visit. This time, the superintendent was there to cover Special Education Paraprofessional Jackie Hall’s job for the day. “I am extremely grateful to Dr. Kemp for coming into our room and taking the time to learn about our kids with special needs,” said Hall." Congratulations: Teachers receive checks from Pac-12

Pac-12 Goes the Extra Yard for Teachers

On December 5 and 6, four deserving teachers from across our district were rewarded for their hard work with surprise visits from the Pac-12 mascots who hand-delivered checks for $3,000. Congratulations to Cynthia Mallison of Bowers Elementary School, Cheryl Chase of Cabrillo Middle School, Jennifer Zeitler of Central Park Elementary School and Ildiko Stennis of Peterson Middle School. Partnership Raises Over $35,000
in Classroom Grants

Thank youThis year, for the first time, the Santa Clara Schools Foundation (SCSF) partnered with DonorsChoose for a GivingTuesday campaign. In a single day, the partnership funded $35,836.75 in classroom grants for 50 SCUSD teachers with unfunded “wishlist” projects. These donations will serve an estimated 1,500 students this year!

Student Spotlight: Samaira Mehta

Samaira MehtaMillikin Basics+ student Samaira Mehta continues her upward trajectory as a speaker in the Bay Area with her most recent gig at the SAP Speaker Series at HanaHaus in Palo Alto, California. Samaira's captivating and interactive talk focused on the power that each of us has, the power to be the next disruptor! Read more on the district website.

Second Place in CCS Championship

Congratulations to the Santa Clara Bruins girls water polo team on winning second place in this year’s Central Coast Section (CCS) Championship. What a send-off for Head Coach Aja Bumbaca in her last year coaching the Bruins! “I’m super proud of this team, it was such a long journey and to end in a bang like this is amazing,” Bumbaca told The Silicon Valley Voice. Santa Clara High School students

On October 25, Santa Clara High School students awarded the Ecumenical Hunger Program and the Bill Wilson Center with $10,000 each thanks to an amazing opportunity from the Learning by Giving Foundation. The Learning by Giving Foundation is an innovative educational program that until now has only worked with college students. Read more on the district website.

Breaking Records at Wilcox

Santa Clara High School cross country teamIt’s been a great year for cross country at both Santa Clara and Wilcox High Schools, but for one runner in particular, it was better than ever! Congratulations to Mircea Kippes who was 12th place at the CCS Division 2 Finals on November 16. This outstanding place qualified Kippes for the 2019 CIF State Cross Country Championships on November 30 at Woodward Park in Fresno. Read more on the district website.

DECA Winners

Wilcox DECA teamFor the second year running, one of the Wilcox DECA teams won the California Council on Economic Education's Financial Advisor Contest. Another Wilcox team tied for third place. In order to qualify for the competition, the teams first had to place high enough in an online exam. Next, the teams had to act as financial advisors for a client. Learn more on the district website.

Crossing Guards

Joaquin and Hermelinda MurilloThe America’s Favorite Crossing Guard contest is back for another year — let’s vote to show our support for our district’s nominees, Joaquin and Hermelinda Murillo. The Murillos work rain on shine to keep our kids and families safe at Bracher and Briarwood Elementary Schools.

After 15 years of hard work we want them to know that we appreciate them and how much we care.
