Bring the whole family and join us for Bible study and worship this Lord's Day!

Wisdom is inherent with God alone (Jude 25; Rom. 16:25). No man can claim to be wise who rejects the most basic facts of life or ignores reality. Instead of being called wise this person would be considered a fool. Those who reject God’s very existence are fools indeed, the exact opposite of wise (Psalm 1:1). If we would be wise, then, we must understand the fear of the Lord and seek after it as one might search for some hidden treasure (Prov. 2:1-5). How much better it is to get wisdom than gold or silver or rubies or anything else sought after in this world (Prov. 16:16; 8:11)! It is the Lord that gives wisdom because He alone possesses wisdom inherently (Prov. 2:6).

But if we lack wisdom and we sincerely seek it then we may apply to God for wisdom and He who gives liberally to all men will also give us wisdom (James 1:5). Of course, God limits His response to those who are His children (I Pet. 3:12). . . .

Digital Library

The Mt. Vernon Church of Christ is building a digital library to aid serious Bible students in their study.  When possible, we will be adding new volumes.  We are grateful to the many sources from which we draw these volumes for making these available.  We take no credit for them ourselves.  We do not necesarrily endorse everything in every volume.  We simply provide them as aids to Bible study.  This week:

Memoirs of Alexander Campbell II

There has been several teaching that love is the basis for unity and not doctrine. The word "love" is used a lot by different people and it means different things to different people. The Bible certainly tells us that we must have love for God, His Son, the church, the Word and love for one another if we are going to remain in fellowship with God and our fellow Christians (Rev. 2:4; I John 4:20-21). This all Bible believers must believe, but when preachers and teachers start teaching that doctrine doesn't make the difference they are getting off base! They are making light of doctrine which in itself is a dangerous error. Paul wrote to Timothy that if one blasphemes doctrine they blaspheme God's name (I Tim. 6:1).

It is simple to take a concordance and follow the scriptures that speak of doctrine and see its prominence in our maintaining a fellowship with God and our fellow-citizens in the kingdom of God. . . .

Golden Thought

"We can complain because rose bushes have thorns or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses" – Abraham Lincoln

One song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring.

One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea,
One word can frame the goal

One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom.

One step must start each journey.
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise our spirits,
One touch can show you care.

One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make a difference,
You see, it's up to you!
