One of the greatest proofs of the divine origin of the Bible and of Christianity itself is fulfilled Bible prophecy. The Bible is replete with prophecies from the beginning of the Book of Genesis to the end of the Book of Revelation. Hundreds of prophecies were uttered and, where there is enough evidence to make a solid judgement, all of them have perfectly come to pass just as was foretold, such that the skeptic cannot successfully assail them. Fulfilled prophecy is one of the thorns in the skeptic's side.
It is natural that other people and other groups should want to emulate the Bible's incredible accuracy and uniqueness in this field. But a comparison of the Bible's prophecies with the so-called prophecies of other groups, religious and non-religious, demonstrates the Bible's incomparable accuracy. The Bible's prophecies are not draped in vague, veiled language that can be interpreted in multiple ways. The Bible's prophecies are generally spot on and clear and accurate. . . .
The Mt. Vernon Church of Christ is building a digital library to aid serious Bible students in their study. When possible, we will be adding new volumes. We are grateful to the many sources from which we draw these volumes for making these available. We take no credit for them ourselves. We do not necesarrily endorse everything in every volume. We simply provide them as aids to Bible study. This week:
This is a sensitive topic. There are few subjects that seem to get as strong a negative reaction as this one. People resent being told how to dress, and they resent being told how to dress their children. But regardless of how the world goes, and regardless of the reaction of worldly brethren, modesty never goes out of style for the child of God. Immodesty is always wrong, and modesty is always right in the eyes of our maker.
Let us notice three passages that teach about modesty and warn about immodesty.
I Timothy 2:9-10 - “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. . . .
You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.
Chisel in hand stood a sculptor boy
With his marble block before him,
And his eyes lit up with a smile of joy,
As an angel-dream passed o'er him.
He carved the dream on that shapeless stone,
With many a sharp incision;
With heaven's own light the sculpture shone,--
He'd caught that angel-vision.
Children of life are we, as we stand
With our lives uncarved before us,
Waiting the hour when, at God's command,
Our life-dream shall pass o'er us.
If we carve it then on the yielding stone,
With many a sharp incision,
Its heavenly beauty shall be our own,--
Our lives, that angel-vision.

Bible Question of the Week
(All questions come from the Scripture readings.) Jesus was made a high priest forever after what order?
LAST WEEK'S QUESTION AND ANSWER Of what is satan the father?
ANSWER: John 8:44 - Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
