The child of a professional painter, Heather spent her childhood underfoot in her father's studio, where she developed a love for the visual arts. Her passion for children's illustration stems from her belief that if we can imagine a better world, we can create it. And that she does, indeed; in part, by infusing emotion and the magic of everyday life into her awe-inspiring work. Upcoming picture books include A Poem Grows Inside You (Katey Howes; Innovation Press) and Hattie Hates Hugs (Sarah Havorka; Beaming Books).

Heather uses the lessons and techniques from her years of traditional work to lend her illustrations a unique style. She loves using textures and palettes that have a feeling of traditional media, and modern digital tools that allow her to experiment and push beyond what she can do with brushes and pens. Heather’s favorite subjects are people in all their wonderful variations of colors, shapes and personalities, and anything found in nature—landscapes, flora and fauna of all kinds. She works in a variety of mediums: from gouache, watercolor, pastel and colored pencil to paper pop-ups and digital art.
