Let's Build the Next Big Thing!

Hello, Toledo!

Toledo is proud of its past — and it should be. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Toledo helped build the America we all know and love. We perfected the manufacturing of glass. We turned iron ore into steel. We built cars and parts for cars. We were early pioneers in the development of solar panels. We invented the machine — the Jeep — that Dwight Eisenhower credited with winning WWII, and we built the machinery and developed the materials that helped put a man on the moon.

You bet we’re proud of our past. But the game-changing announcement by GM this week speaks to Toledo’s limitless future.

GM will be investing $760 million into its West Toledo plant to serve as the hub for its electric drive system. It is the first GM plant in America to begin its conversion to electric vehicles, and it makes a loud statement about what America’s largest automaker thinks of Toledo and its workforce.

In 2021, Site Selection Magazine ranked Toledo #1 in the country for new business investment and #1 for its commitment to sustainability. Toledo is proof that we can create jobs and embrace technologies that are sustainable and earth-friendly. We can create jobs and make sure workers receive good wages and benefits. This isn’t just a theory.

In Toledo, this is our practice, and this week's announcement is just the latest example of our winning formula!

We can continue to win investments such as these with a focus on the future and more specifically, a plan. You can contribute to the future of Toledo by helping us know what you think. Head to to take a survey today.

I would also like to congratulate Knight Insurance on the opening of their new offices in the Warehouse District this week. It was a great event and another great addition to Downtown's momentum. Best of luck to Knight Insurance!

Finally, don’t forget that next week a live version of Wednesday’s With Wade is back! We will have a very special edition of the series to commemorate service week at the City of Toledo.  Join us!

Have a wonderful week, Toledo.

Resident Spotlight:  Tahree Lane

In an ongoing series of spotlights on City of Toledo employees, businesses and residents, we turn our attention to the work of Tahree Lane.

Tahree Lane is a self-diagnosed ‘re-cyclo-path.’ She’s had the condition for years and it is infectious.

“I don’t think there is a cure for it,” Lane said. “I am always looking for something to recycle.”
