Water Works!
Hello, Toledo.
Hope you are having a great week. As the temperature drops this week, our attention turns to leaf collection. It is almost time! Our first day for leaf pick-up will be November 4, 2022. More details on the schedule coming soon.
Yesterday, we had some pretty exciting news to announce. I joined Department of Public Utilities Director Ed Moore to announce the official end of the Toledo Waterways Initiative work. The City of Toledo is fully compliant with the orders of the Court, the EPA, and the Federal Government and will be released from their supervision. Even more impressive is the fact that the City of Toledo is the first city of its size in the United States to have achieved this status! You can read more here.
The goal of the Toledo Waterways Initiative (TWI) was to clean our waterways and reduce sewage overflows through wastewater storage, sewer separation, and improved wastewater treatment. These solutions involve over 45 separate projects encompassing 48 square miles over the course of 18 years, at a total cost of $529 million. Projects included improvements to the Bay View Wastewater Treatment Plant and the elimination of sanitary sewer discharges at key locations, including Arlington Avenue, Detroit Avenue, Fernhill Road, Heatherdowns Boulevard, Parkside Boulevard, Point Place, and River Road.
The City of Toledo's investment in the water treatment plant ensures safe drinking water for all of our residents and water customers. Thanks and congratulations to all at the Department of Public Utilities on their commitment to these successful improvement projects. Your efforts are appreciated by all of us.
If you want to hear more about the great work the Department of Public Utilities is doing, head to one of our upcoming community meetings to learn more.
Hope you had a wonderful time last weekend at the Momentum Festival. It was a great event. Thanks to all of the planners and sponsors who made this event great.
Have a wonderful week, Toledo.
