Tragic Loss in the Dalat Alumni Community

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Emily Adams, daughter of Dalat alumnus Todd Adams (’88) and his wife Debbie, on October 4. Emily, who was 21 year old, passed away in Arkansas, United States, following a car accident.

Todd and Debbie are missionaries with the Christian & Missionary Alliance in Papua, Indonesia, but are currently on home assignment in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. Todd is also cousin to current Dalat staff member Jacki Steinkamp, and he and Debbie led the Missions Emphasis Week (MEW) at Dalat in 2013.

Emily’s grandparents, Virg and Bonnie Adams, were dorm parents at Dalat in the high school girls dorm at Dalat in the 1980s. Her uncle, Chad Adams (’87), also was on staff at Dalat in the early 2000s.
The C&MA has posted an article about Emily:

Dalat alumnus Theo Love (2004), who is a film editor, director, and producer, recently released his latest film, White Tide: The Legend of Culebra, to rave reviews. The film is a documentary about a desperate man going on a buried treasure hunt for $2 million worth of cocaine in the Caribbean. This incredible real-life story has been screened at several film festivals across the United States this year, and Netflix has purchased the film’s global streaming rights. It will be retitled The Legend of Cocaine Island and released in 2019.

A few alumni showed their support, attending one of the film’s screenings in September at the Port Townsend Film Festival (Port Townsend, Washington) in the United States.

Servathon, September 2018

The junior class focused its efforts to bless a children’s home for this year’s annual Servathon. We are proud of our juniors who all worked very hard—scraping old paint off of walls, painting dorms, repairing a broken fence, painting the home’s logo, sanding and painting shelves, and playing with the children. Our senior class also sent some donations to the home in the form of snacks, food items, new oscillating fans, and other appliances. Additional photos can be viewed at:

Ordinary Radicals

Book by Alumnus Jonathan Hayashi (2009) on Amazon
Jonathan Hayashi’s book “Ordinary Radicals: A Return to Christ-Centered Discipleship” is now available for preorder at this link. The book explores how the gospel you believe determines the disciple you make, and that radical discipleship is about nothing more and nothing less than laying bare the roots of the gospel.

Jonathan serves as one of the pastoral staff at Troy First Baptist Church (Missouri, United States) and is a doctoral student at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville (Kentucky, United States).

2018 Annual Fund is Happening Now…
Can You Help?

The Dalat campus is buzzing with excitement this fall, especially the elementary students, who are looking forward to a brand-new playground in the elementary courtyard! Along with the playground, Annual Fund will pay for new scenery for the drama program, specialized science equipment for high school classrooms, bike racks throughout campus, an electronic scoreboard for the gym...and much more!

Our community’s Annual Fund goal is to raise RM 195,000 (nearly $47,000 US) to pay for items requested by teachers that tuition just can’t cover.

If you would like to help meet the goal this year, you can make a tax-deductible gift in the U.S. or Canada through Dalat’s partner RCE International by clicking here and choose the General Fund. Thank you for your kind consideration!
