The Harbor Opens!

Dalat’s staff and students were excited to begin school this year with the addition of the Harbor! Situated on the north side of the campus, the brand-new building includes 14 high school classrooms, a band room, administrative and finance offices, and a 500-seat auditorium. Some buildings that had housed offices and classrooms were demolished to make way for a parking lot, which is adjacent to the Harbor. Dalat received the building occupancy permit — which was required to hold classes and use the office space in the Harbor — just before school began. Read more about this amazing new structure here.

Enrich a Student’s Education at Dalat

Annual Fund at Dalat…Coming This fall

Every fall at Dalat, families, friends, and community come together to identify and purchase helpful items that will enrich the educational experience for students and their teachers. As the nature of Dalat’s mission is to provide high-quality education at a very affordable tuition cost for mission families, resources beyond basic educational necessities are very limited. Dalat’s leaders established the Annual Fund to help close the gap and open the possibilities for our students!

This fall, the Annual Fund will be tasked with the ambitious goal of raising RM195,000 (nearly $50,000) for items that include:
  • Active seating devices (standing desks, gym balls, wobble cushions) that help young students with special learning challenges to maintain their focus
  • bike racks for commuting students and staff
  • a collapsible lung model to show and demonstrate high school anatomy
  • ukuleles to introduce group ensemble work to elementary music students
  • safe, secure playground apparatus for our youngest students
  • …and much more!
Dalat’s alumni can play a role in helping to make these benefits possible for our students. If you’ve benefited from a great education at Dalat and are thinking about how you can help other students, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to support the Annual Fund. More information will come your way in the weeks to come.

Reconnecting at Dalat

Alumni who Have Dropped by Recently
Former Dalat dorm parents Perry and Toni Rollins visited campus in June, along with their sons Dusty Rollins and Jared Rollins and their families. So glad to welcome this wonderful family back to Penang! The photo was taken in front of the brand new high school building...we call it The Harbor.
Alice Chen (Class of 2000) met up with her good friend and schoolmate Jenny Lai (Class of 2002) at Dalat in August. They spent their Penang vacation together and also visiting friends and family.
Robert (Bob) Schilling (Class of 1978) and his wife Pat were in Penang in August. This was Bob’s first time back “home” since graduation. Bob’s sister, Christine Schilling Hildebrandt, attended Dalat’s informal reunion in Phoenix last March.

A New School Year Begins at Dalat!

In mid-August Dalat Ushered in its 89th Year of Providing
Students With an Education for Life!
High School Principal Brian Brewster welcomed students back to school and high schoolers began classes in the new Harbor Building.
Elementary school friends shared summer stories on the first day of school.
Middle school students enjoyed a retreat together in the first few days of school.
Boarding students settled into dorm life together.
