From the very beginning the five ignatian justice and ecology networks in Europe have been involved in the organization of the Loyola 2022 Congress. These networks gather many different institutions which work across the continent, ranging from direct assistance of vulnerable people to advocacy and awareness raising, from social research and publishing to supporting development programs in the Global South. And many people from these institutions will participate and speak in the modules and workshops in Loyola.
This time, the invitation to attend the Congress comes from the Brussels central office of one of these networks, the Jesuit Refugee Service Europe (JRS). The JRS was created 40 years ago by Fr. Pedro Arrupe, the Superior General of the Jesuits at the time, as an answer to the crisis of the Vietnamese boat people in Asia. Today the JRS action in Europe extends to 22 countries, and in 2020, the JRS country offices served more than 75 000 people in various forms: psychosocial and pastoral support, emergency assistance and healthcare, education for children and adults, legal protection and advocacy for structural changes in legislation, etc. Get to know more about the work of JRS-Europe in their website, and meet them in person in Loyola !
