Neil and Rachelle's Update

Looking back, the last couple of months have been like a whirlwind, filled with God’s blessings, opportunities, challenges, goodbyes, and hellos. We successfully wrapped up our time in Mbeya, and our last Sunday at Ammi Shaddai was special as our church surprised us by preparing a meal for us afterwards to say goodbye. A few days before we left, Florence, one of Neil’s friends from the Bungu, came all the way from the village and stayed with us for a night just so he could say goodbye. After saying our goodbyes in Mbeya, we flew to Dar es Salaam, where we spent almost a month. We reconnected with a lot of our old friends and neighbors there, and we were encouraged to see they hadn’t forgotten about us. We were able to go further in our conversations with some of them, and we’re thankful for those opportunities to share truth. Our last Sunday in Tanzania, Neil spoke at Tegeta Baptist, the church we attended during our time in Dar es Salaam. The next day, we were on an airplane to Amsterdam, then Seattle. We stayed a week in Seattle with Neil’s sister and her family before going on to Idaho, where our church had an apartment ready and furnished for us. Since then we’ve been busy catching up with people, planning our next couple of months, visiting with family, and we’re trying our best to get in some quiet time as a family as well.
As we’re here adjusting again to life in the States, our minds still sometimes drift back to Tanzania and we think of our friends and co-workers there. Things remain uncertain with the visa situation, and some of our co-workers have had to leave the country for now. We’re blessed to hear that our churches in both Mbeya and Dar es Salaam are praying for us, and desire to have us return.
Until then, we’re excited to reconnect with friends here and we hope to see many of you in person. Here’s a look at our schedule for our time in the States: Next week we’re driving out to Billings, Montana. From there we’re stopping in Hot Springs, South Dakota before we head on to Michigan for a Debrief. Then in July, we’ll be in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas. Then in August, we’ll head back to Idaho, passing through Colorado. In November, we’re planning a trip out to the West coast as well, to Oregon and northern California. Thanks for thinking of us, and feel free to email us for our new phone numbers.
