Muhammad Abdul Hafeez, a 44 year-old Pakistani national, was executed on 17 November 2013. His execution by firing squad reportedly took place in secret. He was sentenced to death in November 2001, after being arrested in June the same year, for attempting to smuggle heroin into Indonesia.
After a four-year hiatus, Indonesia resumed executions in March 2013. Muhammad Abdul Hafeez is the fifth person to be executed this year.
