PINEAPPLE
The Pineapple situation has improved with raw material being available in standard quantities in both Thailand and Indonesia.  Raw material prices have gone up slightly to around TBT5.0/kg (from a low TBT3.50-4.00/kg), and we expect good availability for the rest of the year.  Most Thai factories will close down for maintenance during August-September after the summer crop.

MANDARIN ORANGES
The Mandarin Orange situation is proving to be as severe as expected.  Many factories closed early due to the high price of raw material (Rmb5.00/kg v. normal Rmb1.0-1.20/kg) which caused an even lower output than expected due to the labor shortage.  This situation will affect Mandarin availability later in the year as the new crop will start around November 2018 with shipments arriving in the US in January at best.

OTHER MARKET NOTES

Baked products from the EU with high egg content are subject to a slight price increase due to factors such as a breakout of the bird flu last year.  Our Bonomi Ladyfingers will a slight price increase due to this factor.

Atalanta has been notified of ocean freight increases from European shipping lanes to US ports. Prices are rising due to higher euro and fuel costs. The increase is an average of $250 per 40’ container. Please speak with your Atalanta representative for more information on what items will be affected.
