Greetings from the Grove!

“Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.” ~Terry Tempest Williams

Happy Mother's Day to all of you who have taken up the mantle of motherhood, digging deep inside yourself to offer up all the love and strength you possibly can. It is not the easiest journey, but it may be the most rewarding and heart-opening one!

Spring is now in full swing with buds-a-bursting, floral scents heavy in the air, insects pollinating, and mama birds protecting their new eggs. This time of year brings the energy of movement...tending gardens as well as summer dreams. We have more daylight and warmth to motivate us and keep us feeling light and bright, and visions of vacations or outdoor adventures help us get through the occasional rainy day or dreary work load.

I've spent the past few weeks working mostly outdoors and teaching school children about our local waterways. It's made me very aware of how deeply we're all connected. Water is Life, and we truly have that in common with all other living things on this planet. We also have the responsibility to care for ourselves and all else on this world. We are all related.

And when we work together for the good of us all, we can make miracles happen...whether it's cleaning up a local stream, helping one another with a chore, or sharing a smile or kind thought with another person. We each make a difference, and when we combine our efforts - wow!

So this got me thinking. I need to follow through on some plans and dreams I have for this summer, which will be here before we know it! Every summer, I start with a list of things I want to do, but somehow the time flies so quickly that I never seem to accomplish what I set out to do. This year, I want to anchor it in, because what I need to do will benefit others. I want these dreams to manifest this year. I figure I'm not the only one that has had dreams dissipate in the summer heat, so I thought maybe a little combined effort might make things happen.

I'd like to start something new and would love to have you join me.

I'm going to create a little sacred space outside in my yard for a "dream garden".  I will tend this space with love daily, setting the intent for all the goodness within it to manifest. If you would like to add your dreams and intent to this sacred garden, send me an email and let me know what you want to add. I'll add your dream to our collective garden, and we can work together to create something amazing!

Here's my contribution to the Dream Garden...
I will deepen my relationship with the Plant Kingdom this summer...physically, mentally, and spiritually. I will expand my growing and harvesting knowledge by immersing myself in the greenery, getting to more deeply know the ancient healers of our planet. I will step out of my comfort zone, not be afraid to fail, and share what I've learned with others. I will be aware of our most precious resource, Water, and commit to careful and respectful use of this life-giving element. I will teach to the best of my ability, share my passions honestly and from the heart, and submit my Medicinal Plants of Delaware information to be added to the online "Flora of Delaware" database.

Ok...I would love to hear from you now - let's tend our dreams together! What would you like to plant in the Dream Garden? When we gather together in loving intent, we create something so much more than what we could have created alone. I look forward to adding your beautiful dreams to this sacred garden. It's going to be absolutley divine!

And in honor of Mother's Day, I would like to introduce you to a plant that is calming to the heart and hormones, making her a perfect ally for women - Motherwort. This plant truly has a nurturing energy, reminding us to honor ourselves and move within the cycles and rhythms of nature and our bodies.

May the coming weeks bring you the brightness of springtime colors, the warmth of sunny rays, the refreshing life-giving rain, and the sweet scents of Mother Earth's floral delights!

Like a mother who has earned her knowledge through great experience, Motherwort (Leonarus cardiaca) offers an elegant reminder to take things one at a time and enjoy the journey.

This active member of the mint family is a worthy ally to calm anxiety attacks, especially hormone-related episodes that can accompany menopause and PMS.

Motherwort is cardiotonic, being useful for stress-induced palpitations, angina, mild arrhythmia, and mild hypertension. Anxiety and palpitations caused by hyperthyroidism may be relieved with a combination of Motherwort, Lemon Balm, and Bugleweed.

As a mild diuretic and bitter tonic, Motherwort is also beneficial for nervous dyspepsia.

This naturalized beauty from Europe is a reassuring partner in times of stress and those days when you're just not sure why you're feeling anxious. She reminds us that all is well and we need to care for ourselves. Wrapped in her tender care, we can find our center of peace once again.

May you have the honor of connecting with this nurturing plant and surrendering your worries into her willing arms. She will help you bear your burdens and find the strength within once again.

One step at a time,
there are always challenges along the way,
but there is beauty in the journey.
What cannot be seen is sometimes the most valuable of all.
A loving presence is a priceless gift,
and what I offer if you'll partake.
A bright and countering spirit am I.
Sip of my nectar,
let the juices flow through you
and feel my solid strength supporting you.
Sit and rest awhile on my leaves
before you continue your journey.
I am here as you need,
reminding you to be present,
take one step at a time.
There are priceless treasures along the way -
one step at a time.
Thoughts for the Week

“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.”
~ Matsuo Basho

Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books. ~John Lubbock
