River state mayors call for investment
Mayors from Mississippi River states recently gathered in Washington to meet with members of Congress and White House officials to push for a plan that would help maintain and restore infrastructure on America’s largest waterway. The Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative (MRCTI), an association of 75 Mississippi River mayors from 10 states, pushed a plan that calls for $7.93 billion in investment along the corridor. The plan would support and strengthen federal programs and funds administered by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Transportation, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The plan would create 100,000 jobs and sustain 1.5 million jobs while generating an economic return of $24 billion. Click here to learn more.
