Featured speakers

The semi-annual meeting features interesting presentations about projects that share the river’s story.

Author and photographer Gayle Harper discovered that it takes 90 days for a raindrop to travel from the headwaters of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. She took that journey herself, chronicling her trip in “Roadtrip with a Raindrop: 90 Days Along the Mississippi River.” Harper will share her experience in the general session Thursday.

The Our Mississippi curriculum, developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, helps students connect with the Mississippi River through lessons in science and ecology, archaeology, economics, literature and history. The project aims to foster river connections that inspire river protection and understanding. Angela Freyermuth of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a guest teacher will explain this successful program in the general session Friday.

The Agenda

The agenda also includes sessions on developing the Great River Road as an economic driver, an update on the Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative, information on the Waterfront Community Revitalization and Resiliency Act, a Geo-Tourism update and more. See the working agenda.
