All Around Math
Using Math in ELA
Did you know that you can use Math in ELA?
There are numbers everywhere!
Ways that you can use Math in ELA:
  •  Look at the table of contents and count the number of chapters there are in a book. See how many pages are in each chapter. Find out the chapter that has the most and least number of pages in it.
  • The index has topics listed with their page numbers. Count how many pages your favorite topics in the book have. In poems, count the number of lines and stanzas a poem has.
  •  Count the number of paragraphs that the story or article has.
  •  In writing, you can practice writing the numbers instead of just the number, for example write the number = one. This will help with your spelling too! Click on the number writing poem to help you spell the numbers!

What are we up to this week?
A Foundation for Life

The elementary years bring exciting new challenges and opportunities. It’s the ideal time to nurture social-emotional competence and develop foundational learning skills.

The Second Step K–2 Suite provides a fully integrated framework for protecting elementary school students and promoting their social, emotional, and academic success. Each component’s lessons are age-appropriate, easy to teach, and fun to learn. The framework effectively combines social-emotional learning with bullying prevention and child protection to form a cohesive foundation for whole-school success

Students are working with Charlita Paterson, school Social Worker on an activity using Second Steps.
