Another week and another important step for Veterans in Minnesota. House File 119 to adjust the Property Tax Value Exclusion to include the surviving spouses of some of our most severely disabled Veterans will be heard in the Property Tax Committee. This is a great opportunity to show our lawmakers Veterans are engaged in this process. Below are two ways you can assist in protecting our Veteran's surviving spouses:
1) Attend the committee meeting:
When: Wednesday, February 08, 8:15 AM to 10:00 AM
Where: State Office Building RM. 10
Details: If you have never attended a committee meeting I would highly encourage it. These are filled with great information and an opportunity to participate in our legislative system. If you have a "hat" from one of the organizations you are a member of it would be great to have the room filled with them.
If anyone is unsure of navigating the area around the Capitol you are welcome to link up with a group of us leaving from the Veterans Services Bldg (20 West 12th St. St. Paul) at 7:40. If you get to the Veteran Services Bldg and the door is locked please call up to our office 651-291-1212 and someone will let you in.
2) Call your representative and express your support for HF 119:
Not sure how to get in touch with you State Rep? Click this link and enter your address. http://www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/districts/
The link below will show you who is on the Property Tax Committee. http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/comm/committeemembers.asp?comm=90024
If you see your Representative listed please give them a call. It is o.k. to leave your message with a staffer, they do an excellent job relaying information to their representatives.
Even if your representative is not on this list, please consider giving them a call and expressing your support for HF 119.
I have attached some additional information regarding HF 119 & SF 84.
If you have any questions, or, would like additional information you can contact me at: Trent@davmn.org or 651-788-3186.
