Fall Conference 2016

Attention Chapter Commanders and Adjutants:

The Department Commander invites you to attend the Department's first “Commander’s/Adjutant” (C&A) session. On Friday morning Oct 7th at Fall Conference in Wilmar, Department Commander has scheduled a 2 hour block to speak to all Commanders and Adjutants. The start of the C&A will be 9am in the Gallery 1-4. I have attached the “tentative” schedule for the Fall Conference.

Since the Department was unsuccessful at getting a “Key Leader” training event scheduled this year prior to Conference, the Commander wanted to start a C&A event. Topics that will be discussed during the C&A are:
  • Chapter Officer duties/responsibilities
  • What works and does work for Chapter Outreach in their Communities
  • Difference between Department DAV MN and DAV MN Foundation
There will be time for Q&A at the end as well. This will be facilitated by CDR Aguirre and ADJ Whitehead ALL CHAPTER CDR/ADJ are encouraged to attend this event.

*Jon Retzer, National Service Officer will be conducting a DSO/CSO training Friday & Saturday Morning, attendee only needs to attend 1 session, please RSVP to admin@davmn.org and let us know which session you will attend.

Rainy Lake Houseboat Trip

Well the weather was perfect when we started our trip out onto Rainy Lake in a nice big house boat ready to do some fishing and relaxing for the week. Over all we had some great weather for the week only having to deal with a minor rain storm one night but other than that not one complaint could be said for the weather. It didn’t take long for everyone to become friends and get to know each other before the fishing stories were being told. Some fish were huge and some were small but everyone had a story to share.

Treasure Island Honors Veterans

Toby Keith performed outside at the Treasure Island Resort & Casino Saturday, with his music being a perfect soundtrack for the military.

A portion of the concert tickets benefited two local veteran organizations: Hiawatha Valley Family Beyond the Yellow Ribbon and Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota. The DAV provides strong support to more than 40,000 disabled veterans in Minnesota.

New Fargo VAMC Van to Transport NW MN Veterans

This van was purchased with a $10,000 donation from Fergus Falls DAV Chapter #25, the balance from State of Minnesota DAV Foundation. The title is then given to VA hospital in Fargo VA who then issued it to our Chapter. The VA takes care of all expenses to include insurance. Drivers are volunteers. At this time, the chapter van will go to Fargo one time a week; in future we plan to go two times a week. We stop in Solway, Shevlin, Bagley, Fosston, Mahnomen, and Ada. There is no cost to the Veteran to ride. Our Dispatcher is Dan Wood in Detroit Lakes 855-277-9878. Our other van was too small for our area so it went to Wheaten and will be used to carry Veterans to the Fargo hospital.

Allstate Fundraiser

The DAV was selected out of 5 charitable organizations by Allstate Region 5 Agents and staff to be the recipient of the proceeds of their first ever charitable fundraiser. Allstate organized a bean bag tournament at the local Indeed Brewery in Minneapolis. With a goal of 32 teams registered and donations for door prize drawings and sponsors of the event local Allstate agents raised over $4,000 to the DAV of MN.
DAV Chapter 12 (Little Falls) recently contributed to a combined service organization purchase of a flag box for the community to bring their retired United States Flags.

DAV MN Foundation Golf Classic

The DAV of MN Annual Golf Classic Tournament at THE WILDS Golf Course in Prior Lake was a great success this year. This year proved to be one of our best years yet with 64 sponsored veterans golfing in the morning, and over 130 golfers in the afternoon. With 27 major sponsors and 52 cart sponsorships, along with our silent auction donations, we were able to raise over $50,000!!!!! These funds will assist the DAV of MN with building and sustaining it’s veteran transportation program here in the State of Minnesota.

In 2015 the DAV of MN led the nation in miles traveled and veterans transported, and with your support, we will be able to maintain this high standard and continue to grow our program so that we may continue to support our Minnesota veterans.
