DAV Convention 2016 Saint Cloud

Generous Grant Received from Cities 97

The DAV of MN Foundation is proud to announce we have received a $12,000 grant from Cities 97 Sampler. The grant is funded from the proceeds of the Cities 97 Sampler Volume 27 which are disbursed to Non-Profits in Minnesota.

The grant from Cities 97 will be used to help fund the upcoming vehicle purchases for the expansion of transportation services in the Twin Cities area. Last year the DAV of MN Transportation Program volunteers transported over 19,000 Veterans to their VA medical appointment. During that time our volunteers traveled over 1.4 million miles. This grant will assist the DAV of MN in its purchase of 5 new vehicles to update and expand the services offered to our Veterans.

Over the life of the vehicle that this grant will fund, thousands of Veterans will be able to get free transportation to their appointments at the Minneapolis VA. The DAV of MN Foundation would like to thank Cities 97 for their generous contribution.

DAV & County Drivers Pull Togethe

The DAV Drivers and County drivers have become a network that provides transportation for veterans to VA Medical Centers and Clinics for medical care.  Most counties have vans that provide this service, and all VA Medical Centers have DAV Hospital Service Coordinators (HSCs).  HSCs supervise volunteer drivers go into the communities to get veterans for their medical appointments.  It amounts to being an amazing program that demonstrates what can be done to serve and benefit veterans and even society when different organizations and people pull together.

Volunteers Needed!

The Armed Forces Service (AFSC), located at the Minneapolis-St Paul International airport, is seeking, 4-hour, shift volunteers. At the AFSC, we provide a wide range of services for traveling current member of the U.S. Armed Forces, their dependents, DOD/PHS personnel and armed forces of allied nations. We also welcome Military Retirees and their Dependents in a travel status, if space is available.
As a 24-hour airport facility, we rely on our volunteers to help us maintain our top rated military center, by performing various light house keeping duties. A background check is required and on-the-job training is provided. In addition, complimentary parking is available to AFSC volunteers. To find out more about our mission you may go to our website at
www.mnafsc.org and if interested in our volunteer opportunities click on the “Volunteer” tab to complete an online short form volunteer application. If you have further questions about volunteering with the AFSC, call our volunteer coordinator, Jerry Yasgar, at (612) 834-4948.

Thank you,
Jerry Yasgar, AFSC Volunteer Coordinator
