Mental Health Regional Partnerships Dialogue
The DHHS Mental Health Regional Partnerships Dialogue was held in Bendigo on Monday 15 August. Along with representatives from the DHHS, Tandem and VIMIAC, more than 60 carers, consumers and organisations attended to collaborate their ideas on how to better support people experiencing the impacts of mental health in regional Victoria. Thank you to all who attended, it was a great turn out!

KPMG Focus Groups
The Department of Health and Human Services has engaged consultants KPMG to assist in the development of the Clinical Mental Health System Design, Service and Infrastructure Plan. KPMG will be convening a series of public consultations in August and early September, and preparing a discussion paper on the key issues which a clinical mental health system plan needs to address.

The dates for the public consultations are:

  • Shepparton – Wednesday 24 August, 10am1pm
  • Bendigo – Friday 26 August, 10am1pm
  • Geelong – Tuesday 30 August, 10am1pm
  • Melbourne – Thursday 1 September, 2pm5pm

A dedicated focus group session was conducted at Tandem last week, in which feedback was received from Tandem members who are working in, or have extensive dealings with, the clinical sector. The main message that the group were keen to included was the need to ensure continuity of support and transition between the sections of the service, and to design the system so that it better supports families and carers, and includes them more in its structures and systems.

The Victoria’s Clinical Mental Health System Plan Discussion Paper can be downloaded here.

Housing Forum for Mental Health
University of Melbourne have a new research partnership with Yooralla and Frasers, a building developer. The research focus is to identify a range of modifications that would assist people with disability to live in a private house.

You are invited to take part in a workshop that seeks your views on some design options for people with mobility, hearing or sight issues, that could be supported by some environmental modifications. The outcome will be to include these ideas in buildings as examples of how building developers can easily include these modifications in their stock housing. Click here for more information.

The next monthly meeting of members is on 8 September at the Tandem office. If you would like to join us at this meeting, email us a membership application before the date. We look forward to welcoming new members at the meeting.
