Tandem News

Tandem has a new Chief Executive Officer, with the appointment of Marie Piu to the position, following the retirement of longtime ED, Julien McDonald.  Marie brings greats skills and long experience to the job, and Tandem will be able to continue active advocacy on behalf of Mental Health Carers under her leadership.

The next monthly meeting of members is on July 14 at the Tandem office.  If you would like to join us at this meeting, email us a membership application before the date.  We look forward to welcoming new members at the meeting.

During the past week, Tandem has joined forces with the DHHS and VMIAC around the state, meeting with carers, consumers & the peer workforce at Bairnsdale, Morwell, and  Benalla.  These events have been the first three of the scheduled rural partnership dialogues for 2016.  The theme is Consumer, Family & Carer, Connections for Change.  3 more, to be held at Bendigo, Swan Hill and Warrnambool will happen later in the year.  These events, together with the metropolitan dialogues, demonstrate the department's commitment to engaging with people in the sector, so that feedback from consumers, carers and workers is fed back and able to influence policy.

The Federal Election
With a week to go before the election, we hope that mental health will be in the minds of politicians as an issue that affects millions of Australians. Tandem has released a statement echoing the calls being made by national bodies.  The statement is available on our website, here.

Tandem also exhorts readers to consider supporting the campaigns of Australians for Mental Health, Mental Health Australia and Carers Australia to important goals for mental health. The National Forum for Mental Health Consumers and Carers has also called on government to commit more attention and funds to mental health consumers and carers.  These campaigns are available through the Tandem website, or directly at:
