What's Happening With Social Butterflies, Inc.?
As we embark on a new year and a new journey, we realize that some things change, grow or stay the same. I am proud to say that after 5 years of service, Social Butterflies, Inc. is growing stronger than ever. The mentoring program is in several Clayton County Public Schools, serving 140 girls. In addition to hosting our First Annual Empowerment Breakfast and Fabulous Masquerade Ball, we had the fascinating opportunity of taking over 60 girls and women to The 2013 Presidential Inauguration. The trip began with an exciting bus ride to Washington, DC. Girls were given a gift bag that contained a hat, scarf, gloves, and an Inauguration Activity Guide, along with a $60 gift card for food. Upon arriving to the Washington, DC area, girls checked into a beautiful hotel, visited the Fashion Centre Mall at Pentagon City and embarked on a moonlit tour of the Martin Luther King Jr. and Lincoln Memorial monuments. On Sunday, girls visited Arlington National Cemetery, where they saw the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, the grave sites of Thurgood Marshall, Joe Louis and millions of other brave soldiers who died for our country. Afterwards, girls experienced the Walking Tour of the National Mall, visited the Air & Space Museum and explored the National Museum of Natural History. Lastly, the entire group was photographed in front of the U.S. Capitol Building, where the Inauguration Speech was being held and shopped for souvenirs at Union Station. On Monday morning, buses departed the hotels early to witness the The Presidential Inauguration. This once in a lifetime opportunity provided girls with inspiration, motivation and encouragement that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to; the future is theirs to grow and change.
