Devonport Easter Arts Week
Devonport Community Baptist Church, Plymouth are hosting their second Easter Arts Week in their local community café. Fourteen local artists have come together to produce 14 unique pieces of art which tell the story of the last hours of Jesus’ life. The first of our PFS modules starts on Sat 22 April in Exeter and it's all about sharing Jesus with our friends, neighbours, family, colleagues. Family News

Tricia Barrett was inducted as Associate Minister at Preston on Sat 8 April. Please pray for Tricia and for the following being inducted over the next month.
Karen Golder is being inducted as part of the Truro team on Sun 23 April. Karen will is continue to work with Murray in the pioneering work at Penzance.
Heather Andrews as she is inducted as Lay Pastor at Montacute on Sat 6 May, 2.30pm.
Laurie Burn is being inducted as Minister at Fivehead on Sat 20 May, 3pm in Fivehead Village Hall.

PFS Exeter is about to start - come and join us!
PFS Exeter is a partnership between Bristol Baptist College and SWBA offering high quality teaching in a small group covering three different topics over the year. You can sign up for any or all of the modules. The first 'Evangelism and Mission' starts on Sat 22 April with Part Two on Sat 20 May. We'll be discussing questions such as: How do I share Jesus' love with my neighbour? What can we learn about evangelism from the Bible? The second module 'Doing Theology' (10/6 and 8/7) offers you a chance to consider the framework of Christian faith, belief and ethics and its relevance in the contemporary world. The third module 'Leading Public Worship' takes place in the autumn (16/9 & 14/10). AGM Tuesday 20 June

Our AGM this year is on Tuesday 20 June, 11am to 1pm (venue to be confirmed). Please book the date in your diary. Once again we will be providing a free hot meal as well as sharing stories of what's happening around the Association and dealing with the brief business of receiving the Annual Accounts and election of trustees. Pensions Roadshow The Association is planning a Pensions Roadshow in the autumn which will be an opportunity for church leaders to find out more about the pensions situation. Keep an eye open in E-news for the date!

Safeguarding Training
Safeguarding training is essential for all those involved in ministries where children, young people or adults at risk are present. It is the responsibility of the leaders of each church to ensure that they and their workers/helpers have adequate training in safeguarding matters to ensure that both they and children/young people/adults at risk are safe and that any concerns are dealt with in the proper way. SWBA offers Safeguarding training on the following dates:

Training Opportunities
Do you work with children and families?
Bristol Baptist College offers vocational training, biblical study and theological reflection for people working with children and families within and beyond the church. The Certificate in Theology, Ministry and Mission can be studied full or part time and is for workers, volunteers, apprentices, interns and those on a gap year.

Exploring God in Dementia Study Day
Thurs 11 May, 10am-4pm, Riverside Conference Centre, Exeter EX4 1DU The day has been organised by a team representing dioceses, districts and associations across the South West. It is open to anyone in ministry who wishes to think theologically about the issues raised by dementia. There will be presentations by experts in the field of dementia research and care as well as practical workshops. Dr Jennifer Bute, who spoke at the SWBA 'Living with Dementia' day in November will be sharing her experience of living with dementia. More details here
'Worship Works', Sat 29 April, 10am-4.30pm, Stoke St Gregory Baptist Church, TA3 6JG. A practical day for individuals, music groups, worship leaders, congregations - all who love praising Jesus, regardless of musical ability. Each session will be a lot of fun with worship, teaching and musical illustrations. The aim is to think together about our worship relationship with God and how worship works in our churches. £5 for the day - bring a packed lunch. Diary Dates

'Whole-life Discipleship' : Rural Ministries Annual Conference, Sat 13 May, Nottinghamshire Key speaker: Neil Hudson from the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity. Using biblical examples of God taking ordinary people and using them in their ordinary lives the day will challenge us to develop a culture of whole-life discipleship in our churches, communities and workplaces. BMS Mission Worker Claire Bedford will be visiting South Molton Baptist Church, New Road EX36 4BH on Thurs 15 June, 7.30pm. All are welcome to come and hear about the work she is doing with BMS at Guinebor Hospital in Chad, Africa.
Pastoral Care of those with Mental Health Challenges, Sat 30 September, 10am-4pm, Exeter A Study Day organised by SWBA. The speaker will be Sally Bowcock (BACP Counsellor and Psychotherapist) who will share from her experience as a qualified Counsellor and as someone who has extensive experience of leadership and pastoral care in the local church.
New Leaders Day, Sat 4 November, 10am-4pm, Exeter Organised by SWBA and led by the Association Team. This day is for anyone who is new to leadership in the life of a Baptist church (particularly Deacons and Elders) or for those who might be considering serving their church in this way in the future but want to know more about the role.

Easter Arts Week
Last year Devonport Community Baptist Church hosted an Easter Arts Week supported by a small mission grant from the SWBA. It made a huge impact on visitors... "Very moving. So many artists and ideas to tell one very important story. I sensed God's presence in the stillness of this place." This year a new exhibition is open and it's not too late to visit it this week or next Tuesday (18/4) - more details here. What is your church doing to share the Easter story with your community? We have just launched a new Home Mission page on our website - take a look!
Download and print out a new Home Mission leaflet for those in your church and find information about each of the Home Mission supported ministries in the South West along with links to short 'Home Mission Stories' videos that you can share on your church Facebook page and show in your main gatherings and/or church meetings.
