The most exciting thing to report is my new article that was published in the Huffington Post, an interview with MoMA curator David Platzker.  It covers the current Museum of Modern Art exhibition on John Cage.

The article addresses the intersection of art and music, something that is very dear to my heart, being both an artist and composer.  I also consider my music to be art, just like John Cage did.

This article was featured on the MoMA facebook page and twitter feed (1.5 million followers)

The article also features one of my improvisations at the end of the article, a piece that was written for Barbara London, a MoMA curator.

You can listen to that piece on my soundcloud page as well.

Music updates

I had a concert in January at my studio in Toronto.  It was a great success, people really loved hearing the music, as usual it was entirely piano improvisations.

I am thinking of releasing some material from that concert as a single or EP.

If you have experience with releasing albums, I want to talk to you, email me!

Fresh Track release on Soundcloud

A new recording of one of my piano improvisations has been released on soundcloud, dated March 3, 2014.

There two other articles I have written recently which were published on the Huffington Post:

These articles are part of my ongoing series featuring new music performers and composers.

The first article is an interview with percussionist Ian David Rosenbaum.  It is an interesting read, he is exceptionally intelligent and has a lot of insight into music and the life of a musician in Brooklyn.

Artist Profile: Ian David Rosenbaum, Brooklyn-Based New Music Percussionist

The second article is an interview with composer and performer David Crowell. He has had his music performed at MoMA and travels the world with the Philip Glass Ensemble.

If you have any ideas about musicians, composers, artists or curators I should interview, let me know.

www.JoelGarten.com Redesign underway

My website is undergoing a redesign.  I have put all my art, music and writing on a single webpage, which is something I've wanted to do for a long time.  The design is minimalist.  There are some further refinements coming, but the general look has been set.  I still plan to do some further organization of the "listen" "Artwork images" and "writing" pages.  It features a section with excerpts from my textile collection

If you know any talented web designers let me know.
