Jake Roberts

Kayaking Uganda
and Climbing Mt. Kenya

Service learning and Travel in Eastern Africa
Jake Roberts has been involved with travel and service learning programs in Kenya for his entire life. Jake was born in Kenya and lived there for four years with his family before moving back to the states.

He and his family return to Kenya each summer for roughly two months so his parents can oversee the activities for their program, Batian’s View.

Batian’s View, is a non-profit organization aimed at teaching team-building skills to local schools and businesses based in rural Africa as well as bringing high school students over from the US and Europe to teach at the local schools.

Of course, being based in Kenya offers a huge variety of excursions, both in Kenya and in the neighboring countries of Tanzania and Uganda.

These trips range from tracking leopards on safaris, climbing towering mountain peaks, and plunging into the Indian Ocean for some scuba diving. Jake’s talk will cover the work at Batian’s View he’s been involved with, the two trips he’s done up Mt. Kenya, many of the safaris he’s been on, his time on the Kenyan Coast, as well as some of his travels to Uganda and Tanzania.

 Who is Jake Roberts?
Jake currently lives in Costa Mesa, CA. He’s a recent graduate of Chapman University and is working on applying to graduate school for next fall. His hobbies include running and rock climbing.
