Los Angeles Graduates 40 Minority and Women E-Contractors

ECC President Denise Fairchild and L.A. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas stand among E-Contractor Academy graduates, staff, and supporters. 

On Tuesday, November 19, the first cohort of EC Los Angeles’s newly-launched E-Contractor Academy -- consisting of 42 small, women and minority contractors -- graduated and celebrated with ECC's sponsor, Citi Community Development Group, at a dinner-reception at the Los Angeles Dodgers Club. Several of the graduates have already been pre-qualified to work on the first ECC project: $25 million net zero energy retrofit of Los Angeles County's firehouses, libraries, and health centers. energy projects in the Los Angeles County. The second training cohort will begin in February, and an advanced training program is being developed for the first cohort. 

Port of Cleveland Unanimously Supports RENEW

Emerald Cities Cleveland is poised for regional growth and has most recently successfully become the founding organizer and technical service provider for RENEW Cuyahoga. Under the leadership of Shanelle Smith, and technical assistance by Kevin Warner, RENEW Cuyahoga is a municipal pooled lease financing program that enables eligible MUSH sector owners to access attractive, off-balance sheet bond-financing for retrofits and capital projects using high-road labor and community standard. RENEW launched in partnership with Cuyahoga County and the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority. ECC Convenes At The World's Greenest Commercial Building

Bullitt President Denis Hayes explains the workings of the worlds greenest commercial building to ECC staff. 

Last month marked Emerald Cities’ annual holiday planning meetings, held in the “original Emerald City” of Seattle, Washington. National staff, Local staff and council, and Board members convened to address key issues concerning the “Anatomy of an Emerald City,” after which the week was named. In addition, ECC attendees were invited to host part of our session at and take a tour of the Bullitt Center, which carries the prize for being the “greenest commercial building in the world.” The Bullitt Foundation -- which is housed there -- is led by Denis Hayes, who is credited as the founder of Earth Day.

EC Cleveland's Shanelle Smith will be featured at this year’s Good Jobs Green Jobs Conference, where the RENEW program will be featured. The conference is from February 10-11, and is a gathering of thousands to discuss strategies on building a green economy that creates good jobs and preserves our economic and environmental security. Tomorrow: Atlanta Hosts Free Weather Town Hall and STEM Forum Events

Emerald Cities Atlanta will be co-hosting a town hall meeting and forum with the NOAA and the Center for Sustainable Cities on Saturday, February 1. The "Weather Ready Nation National Town Hall Meeting," as well as a "STEM Education Forum" are free to the public and will focus on helping cities, towns, and communities prepare for and lessen the impact of of severe weather events that are predicted to become more intense and frequent in the near future.
