Atlanta Adopts Community Benefits

The Atlanta City Council has successfully adopted an ordinance to expand the functions and duties of the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, adding a new article for an Atlanta community benefits jobs policy and a jobs training and employment placement policy.

New Cuyahoga County EE Financing Program

Emerald Cities Cleveland is partnering with Cuyahoga County Council, the Cleveland – Cuyahoga County Port Authority, and Public Finance & Energy Advisors, LLC for RENEW (Retrofits for ENergy Efficiency Works) to bring high-road financing solutions for energy efficiency in Cuyahoga's municipal buildings. $25 million of investment-grade energy audits have been completed in 50 Cuyahoga County municipalities, and RENEW’s strategic partners are bringing 100% financing to municipal energy efficiency upgrade projects and creating jobs for disadvantaged residents and businesses.

Citi Assists Business, Buildings, and Apprenticeships In L.A.

Citigroup has awarded ECC an Innovation Fund grant to launch our minority business green building and apprenticeship program in the Los Angeles market. The program is in support of the workforce and business development goals of the Southern California Regional Energy Network (SoCalRen). It will bring access to public-sector energy efficiency contracts with local hire and procurement standards through training, bonding, financing and access to a larger pool of skilled workers.

ECC Submits Recommendations To White House

On March 8, Emerald Cities submitted a list of recommendations for promoting energy efficiency, jobs and equity during the second term. The memorandum was reviewed by representatives from the Domestic Policy Council, National Economic Council and the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ).

Community College Initiative Continues

On March 18 and 19, ECC conducted "deep dive" planning sessions with faculty and administrators from our Bay Area Community College District partners, San Francisco and Peralta. The session resulted in strategic plans for each district, involving campus sustainability, green education and training programs, small business development, and sustainable community development.
