ECC Advances High-Road Agenda at Congressional Briefing on Clean Energy and Communities of Color



Some 90 staff for members of the Congressional Black, Hispanic, Asian Pacific American and House Sustainable Energy and Environment Caucuses crammed a meeting room in the Capitol Visitor Center for ECC’s June 9 briefing on the need to ensure that low-income communities of color benefit equitably in the economic and health benefits of today’s clean energy revolution. While the event was primarily for staff of those caucuses, the standing-room-only group of attendees also represented other congressional offices - from both sides of the aisle – and advocacy organizations.

EC New York's Bronx Healthy Buildings Program Receives Two-Year, $250,000 Award

The Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition (NWBCCC), a member of the Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative, which is the host of Emerald Cities New York, is the lead recipient of a two-year, $250,000 award from the BUILD Health Challenge to implement the Bronx Healthy Buildings Program. This was one of seven projects nationwide receiving implementation support for groundbreaking approaches for improving health in low-income communities.

Wins $100,000 to Study Community Microgrid,
Plays Leading Role in Expanding
Climate Resilience in South Bronx

An Emerald Cities New York Local Council member, The Point Community Development Corporation (The Point CDC), has won $100,000 from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) NY Prize microgrid competition to help communities create stand-alone energy systems that can operate more efficiently and continue to provide power in case of power outages.
 

EC New York, Bronx CDI
Win $25,000 from The Solutions Project

 

EC New York and its partner community development corporation, the Bronx Community Development Initiative (BCDI), have jointly won a $25,000 operating grant from The Solutions Project, an organization that works to accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy “for all people and purposes.” The Solutions Project employs a state-level process that engages the public, convenes leaders and advances partnerships and policies “that make strides on the road to 100%."
