Eco-Schools Latvia celebrates its 8th Summer Forum! 

The Eco-Schools Latvia Summer Forum 2018 has been taking place last month! 120 teachers and over 100 students gathered for a 6 days long programme characterised by seminars, outdoor education, workshops on environmental challenges and, most important, FUN! Find out more and get inspired here!

Mentor visit strengthens Eco-Schools in the US Virgin Islands 

 
A mentor visit is a great way to offer guidance and support to new member organisations as they develop the programme. The Virgin Islands Conservation Society received a visit from Laura Hickey, the FEE board member responsible for Eco-Schools. Laura met different stakeholders of Eco-Schools including state senators, educators and administrators from the school system, and local environmental activists. It was encouraging to see such enthusiastic support to start the Eco-Schools programme. Read more here!

The International School of Geneva awarded the Green Flag! 

 
The International School of Geneva is now the fourth school in Switzerland to be certified as Eco-Schools by the NGO "J'aime ma Planète" that runs Eco-Schools in the country. The award is the result of two years of tireless efforts during which students committed themselves to protect the environment by transforming their school into a place of learning in harmony with nature. The efforts were rewarded by this beautiful green flag that now waves proudly over the campus. Congrats kids!

Students in Malta explored recipes of uncultivated food!

The students of the Gozo College Middle School in Malta are undertaking an exciting journey to explore wild food. The students researched about edible wild plants, went foraging and cooked various recipes using foraged leaves. They produced a recipe book on the use of uncoltivated food to raise awareness about these freely available ingredients. Read the story here

UK & Ireland come together for closer collaboration

National Operators from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland came together in Wigan (UK) to share experiences, discuss processes and find ways to further collaborate. The meeting was a first step towards forming an Eco-Schools UK & Ireland regional network - the second in our programme after the Eco-Schools African Network that was established in 2017.

What is the high point of the programme for you? 


The Eco-Schools programme is entering into the 25th year of engaging young people in taking positive actions that transform them for life. The impact of the programme is well recognized and appreciated by stakeholders that range from the UN organization to the communities in which the school is situated. What is cooking at Eco-Schools International

  • On Saturday 8th September Eco-Schools Head Office team joined the People's Climate March, which took place in Copenhagen and in other 78 countries around the world to amplify our common demand for rapid and responsible actions against climate change and for the climate.                                                                                                                                                  
  • We are working on assessing how countries are working towards the impact of Eco-Schools activities to the achievement of the SDGs by gathering information on all SDGs related initiatives carried out in the Eco-Schools programme at country level.                                                                                                                                                                 
  • FEE General Assembly 2018 is about to take off in Latvia. The Eco-Schools team is getting ready for an exciting week of interesting discussions with the big FEE family!
