Novohradská Secondary School in Slovakia on Climate Change

"We realise the growing importance of stressing global environmental issues even in the school lessons. The students in our secondary school are able to understand the dramatic impact of living in the polluted environment...They know that if even an individual changes their mindset and behaviour in an eco-friendly way, they can improve their nearest surroundings. Our students also joined the students‘ strike in Bratislava brought by the Swedish student Greta Thunberg.

We generally believe informing and educating people are the most effective ways of making progress in solving a number of issues in our lives".

Maintaining And Respecting Life In Nature Starts With.. Me!

Maintaining And Respecting Life In Nature Starts With.. Me! This is the Eco Code adopted by the recently Green Flag awarded St. Andrew’s Anglican School (SAAS) in Georgetown, The Bahamas.

One of the key projects at SAAS was the beehive observation initiative started in 2016 with the help of the Exuma Foundation and The Bee Cause Project. The hive houses queen bee, “Buttercup” and over 1000 drone and worker bees. The student beekeeper project is incorporated in the Biodiversity and School Grounds Action Plan. SAAS’s principal, Locksley Forbes said, “The children are made aware of keeping the environment clean. The observation hive exposed the children to the benefits of honey bees and their importance to ecosystems.”

On 14 March, Benbella Girls Secondary School and Stone Town International School received their first Green Flag award by Eco-Schools Zanzibar.

These are some of the first schools in Zanzibar to be awarded since the beginning of the implementation of the national programme in 2015, thus of great importance to our member organisation, ZAYEDESA. It is proof of the commitment to support schools for reaching high standards and excellence.

The event was celebrated by many schools, community and government officials and the special guest, Hon. Mihayo Juma Sleiman Nunga from the second Presidents Office on behalf of the Hon. Minister of Education.
