Merry Christmas from the Gidget Foundation

2015 has been been a busy year for the Gidget Foundation.

Our clinical services, education, awareness and fundraising events have all been made possible through the dedication and support of our amazing community. Our collaborations with a number of organisations ensure that our work and our messages are far reaching and support pregnant mothers and vulnerable families with new babies. We are blessed to have the support of some amazing midwives and psychologists who care and support young families at a time when life can feel very overwhelming.
And a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful community, as without your ongoing support we would not exist. The volunteering of time, expertise and services by so many generous individuals and organisations helps us to direct most of our funds to our various programs. Gidget’s spirit lives on with the fun, warmth and creativity everyone shares!
Christmas is fast approaching with its busyness and high expectations. Many people find anxiety mixed in with the joy. Take time out for yourself. Enjoy the wonder on the faces of your children. Seek help if you need support.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a fulfilling 2016.
Catherine Knox, CEO, Gidget Foundation

Gidget House

It was a successful second year for Gidget House, our free counselling service in North Sydney. Gidget House psychologists have seen nearly 400 individual patients and had over 2,000 appointments. A huge thank you to our team at Gidget House for their commitment and for providing personalised professional care. Next year we will be expanding our services to regional areas and other Australian cities, via Skype sessions!

Emotional Wellbeing Program
Supported by the nib foundation, this program has been supporting pregnant women at North Shore Private Hospital since March 2011. Since inception, over 3,000 women have had appointments with Gidget midwives. We’re extremely excited to announce that the Gidget Foundation will soon be expanding the program to the Mater Hospital.

Education and awareness
We continue to make presentations on perinatal health to medical students, health professionals and community groups. In September we featured in the Advice Hub at the Baby and Toddler Show in Sydney. The Gidget Foundation Breakfast at the Australasian  Marce Conference in Adelaide included a thought provoking presentation by Vijay Roach.
Our small research team has been busy.  We have presented papers at a number of Scientific Conferences this year including the World Congress of O&G Brisbane, ASPOG Melbourne, SJOG Sydney, Marce Adelaide, Sri Lanka, FIGO Vancouver.  Our first paper has been accepted for publication in a peer reviewed journal.

The Gidget Foundation Scholarship
For many years the Gidget Foundation has funded an annual scholarship for a Tresillian nurse to complete a Mental Health Course to compliment the skills they already have in child and family health care.  This year the scholarship was awarded to 2 outstanding candidates, Megan Sena and Julie Maddox. Congratulations ladies!

Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Awareness Week 15 - 21 November

The Gidget Foundation  was busy spreading the word with a variety of promotions and events. Thanks to those who helped to spread our messages of supporting the emotional wellbeing of new parents and help seeking.

Blogger Morning Tea

In preparation for the week, we held a morning tea in October for a group of bloggers who were interested in hearing more about the Gidget Foundation and our Bun in the Oven fundraiser. Our meeting room at Gidget House was transformed into a floral masterpiece by Jess from Miss Adams Florist. The Gidget team baked some beautiful food and we were also lucky to receive donated items. Thank you to Zoi from Devour Cakes for the yummy cake pops and macarons and to Botanica for the amazing juices. Following the event the bloggers posted photos and articles on various social media. Thanks to Lisa Humphries for helping us organise the morning tea and to Meg Garrido, Melissa Ambrosini, Seana Smith, Jade Warne and Sam Colden for your support. Parliament House Lunch

On Monday 16th November, Premier Mike Baird hosted a lunch for the Gidget Foundation at Parliament House. Mike Baird, Gidget Foundation Ambassador Kerryn Baird, Catherine Knox and Dr Vijay Roach all spoke beautifully and encouraged the 200 attendees to talk with people they trusted about how they feel, to ask others how they are coping and to take responsibility for making sure their workplaces are supporting new parents. Thanks to Tonic PR for their assistance. A Sydney Morning Herald article on the event and the Baird’s experience with post natal depression featured that afternoon.
A few of our supporters kindly shared their stories with journalists. Thank you to Lisa, Angela and Liliam for your courage and honesty. By talking about perinatal anxiety and depression you are ensuring that more people receive the help they need.

Fundraising for the Gidget Foundation

Bun in the Oven

Thank you to all those who have organised morning teas, lunches, dinners and gatherings in the park in support of the Gidget Foundation. We love the awareness you’ve been raising and appreciate every cent raised as it all contributes to keeping our services such as Gidget House operating.  Massive thanks to North Shore Private Hospital for their fantastic support, promoting the Bun in the Oven initiative widely throughout the hospital and even holding a Bun in the Oven fundraising morning tea in the Hospital foyer. Bun in the Oven  continues to the end of December.

Pram Power!

Marathon Man!

Congratulations to Matt Hunt who ran the Blackmores Sydney Marathon and raised over $2600 for the Gidget Foundation! Well done Matt and a huge thank you for your support.

Melbourne Cup Lunch

The Gidget Foundation was one of 4 charities supported by the Peninsula Pals who organised a fantastic Melbourne Cup lunch. Hosted by our ambassador Kerryn Baird, the event was a big success and raised nearly $10,000 for the Gidget Foundation.
Kerryn Baird was interviewed in the lead up to this lunch.
