Dear Friends and Readers,
Earlier this month the House’s antitrust subcommittee, led by Congressman David Cicilline, published the findings of its bipartisan 16-month investigation of the tech giants. The subcommittee’s report is incredible — a clear and compelling analysis, built on extensive evidence, that confirms what independent businesses have long suspected. The report finds that Amazon “has monopoly power” and “has engaged in extensive anticompetitive conduct.” It calls for Congress to pass new policies to breakup and regulate Amazon.
This is a huge step forward. We have been working hard, together with many of you, to reach this point. The subcommittee’s report quotes and cites ILSR’s research extensively, and it details the experiences of many independent retailers, product makers, and technology companies harmed by Amazon’s tactics. Its policy recommendations reflect the policies we have been pushing for in our op-eds, meetings with lawmakers, joint sign-on letters, and press briefings.
This report is only the first step. Now we need Congress to act on the report’s recommendations.
Thank you — Together we can win the fight against outsized corporate power and create thriving, equitable communities.
