Exhibition Opportunities

Artists at Work Project Window
MECA is seeking proposal from alumni for temporary, site-specific installations in the Congress Street window of the Artists at Work space. Includes a stipend and professional documentation.

Percent for Art Competition
Maine artists are invited to submit proposals to design, create, and install an artwork in the Augusta, ME courthouse. Budget is $150,000.

Cape Elizabeth Paint for Preservation
Artists are invited to submit for the Cape Elizabeth, ME wet paint auction benefit in July. Selected artists paint on location and receive a percentage of the sale price.

Dave Bown Projects

Residencies

Baie St. Marie Residency
This residency is only offered only to the MECA community. Alumni, faculty, and staff can apply for residencies of two to four weeks in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Pace House Residency
This residency is offered only to the MECA community. Alumni, faculty, and staff can apply for residencies of one to four weeks in Stonington, ME.

Tides Institute
Month-long residencies at the Tides Institute & Museum of Art in Eastport, ME includes housing, studio access, and a $2,000 stipend.

Skowhegan
Located in Maine, Skowhegan is an intensive, nine-week artist residency program for emerging visual artists who have demonstrated a commitment to art-making and inquiry .

Foster Gallery
An eight-week residency at Noble and Greenough School in MA culminating in an exhibition at the school's Foster Gallery.

Belvedere Grant
Grant is available to support the professional development of MECA graduates from the past 10 years who are working in the field of crafts.

Good Idea Grant
The Maine Arts Commission provides up to $1,500 to support the creation of new work or professional development. A public component is required.

Launchpad Grant
Gorham Savings Bank invites entrepreneurs to submit their business idea. The winner of the competition is awarded $30,000.

Grant Wood Art Colony, Iowa City, IA
Fellowships in Printmaking and Painting & Drawing provide a $40,000 teaching salary, benefits, housing and studio space.

Vermont Studio Center: Johnson, VT
Residents receive an individual studio, private room, and all meals.

2014 Winner of Geary's Summer Ale Packaging Competition: Nicole Holmes '14, Graphic Design.

Each year, Geary's Brewing Company sponsors a $5,000 competition for the best package design.
In addition to the cash prize, the winning designer has their work on 1 million bottles of Summer Ale.

Freshmen in Shirah Neumann's FY-In class partnered with the Cumberland County Civic Center on a temporary public art mural on the Free Street exterior. Students got to meet with stakeholders, learn about design parameters, pitch concepts, and work collaboratively. Kudos to Grace Whatley for the final design.

Freshmen in Samantha Haedrich's FY-In class partnered with Portland Trails. Students created design proposals for a temporary public art installation - a series of large sidewalk signs - along Portland's waterfront. The project was part of an EPA grant awarded to the college to embed issues of climate change and environmental stewardship into the curriculum. Students will present their designs at the organization's board meeting.

Students in Pilar Nadal's Second Year Lab class partnered with Avesta Housing residents to create original artworks for the community room of the Bayside East development. The class focused on sharing stories and making artworks in response to memories, objects, and collections of significance to Avesta residents.
