Note From The Superintendent

Dear Southern Boone School District Family,

As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to increase in our community, I hope you and your family are remaining healthy and safe.

I would like to take a moment to recognize our teachers and staff for their hard work and dedication, as they continue to provide a high level of instruction to all students in our district. Our teachers are doing everything they can to provide instruction to all students. They are teaching classes to students in the classroom, while at the same time, providing virtual instruction to students at home. I am very proud of our teachers' continued effort to meet the needs of all of our students, whether they are in-seat or needing to learn virtually from home.

The Southern Boone School District is committed to provide in-seat instruction for our students. Our teachers and staff are doing everything we can to have students in all of the school buildings remain in-seat as much as possible, but we realize there is always the possibility of having to return to virtual learning if an increase in COVID-19 cases disrupts the day-to-day operation of a school or the entire district. The increase in COVID-19 cases is also contributing to the ongoing shortage of substitute teachers. There may be times when a school or the entire district may need to switch to virtual learning, due to the number of COVID-19 cases affecting our staff and the continued substitute teacher shortage, which can cause major challenges to provide in-person learning to students in our classrooms. It is the school district's goal to provide parents as much notice as possible before having a school building and/or the entire district switch to virtual learning for a few days.

With the increase in COVID-19 cases in our community, it takes a team effort from parents and our staff. If your child is sick and experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms, please keep them home. The Omicron variant is spreading very quickly, and affecting our younger students in a way I have not seen during this pandemic. We are trying to provide a healthy and safe environment in our schools for our students and staff, but we need everyone's help to make this possible.

Please reach out to me personally if you have any questions or concerns regarding the school district's COVID-19 mitigation measures.

Thank you again for your ongoing cooperation and support of our students, staff and the school district during these challenging times.

Respectfully,

Christopher Felmlee
Superintendent of Schools

Staff Tour Middle School Construction Project
Middle school teachers and staff went on a tour of the construction project for the new addition on Wednesday, January 12th. Voters in the Southern Boone School District approved the $7.7 million bond issue last April for the middle school construction project. The project will connect the two buildings with the new addition, which consists of a new main office, science labs, library and vocational area. The project also includes converting the current office and library into additional classrooms, and other much needed improvements to the middle school.

New Video Scoreboard Sponsorship Opportunities

Southern Boone School District is excited for a partnership with Scoreboard Media, LLC to bring state-of-the-art videoboards, scoreboards and other digital equipment to our outdoor stadium and high school gym. These new scoreboards will be used for football, soccer and basketball games, volleyball matches, wrestling meets and many other school functions that are held at the outdoor stadium and in the gym.

The new equipment will allow the school district to offer our student athletes top-notch athletic facilities, as well as improve the fan experience for everyone in the community. In addition, these boards will be used for many academic purposes and school functions. Access to this new digital and video technology will offer the opportunity for student curriculum in video content production and operation, as well as live game production.

In addition to providing the equipment, Scoreboard Media has agreed to pay the school a substantial portion of the sponsorship proceeds, which should, with the support of the business community, provide additional financial support over the term of the agreement.

If you own or work for a business that is interested in the opportunity to get your message and brand in front of our community of students, faculty, families, fans and other supporters, please contact Charlie Megan with Scoreboard Media at charlie@scoreboard.media. If you have questions about the new scoreboards, you can contact Athletic Director Dale Long at dlong@ashland.k12.mo.us.
