Flu Shot Clinic: Thursday, October 20, 2022

The 2022-2023 injectable Influenza vaccine (flu shot) will be given free of charge to students at Southern Boone Schools on October 20, 2022.

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services will be on-site to administer the vaccine in the Middle and High Schools from 9-11am and the Elementary school from 1-3pm. Primary students and community members can receive the flu vaccine in the Primary Gym from 3:30-6pm.

This opportunity to have your child vaccinated is strongly encouraged, but it is NOT mandatory. For your child to be vaccinated, the 2022 Influenza “Flu” Vaccine School-Based Clinic Consent Form must be:

• FULLY completed and SIGNED by the parent or legal guardian
• Completed for EACH CHILD (you must return a separate form for each child you want vaccinated)
• Returned to your school nurse by Monday, October 17th.

Southern Boone Celebrates National School Lunch Week

The Southern Boone School District has been celebrating National School Lunch Week this week. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week highlights the nutritious foods available daily at school. “School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Faith Calvin, Director of Nutrition Services with Opaa! Food Management at Southern Boone School District. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”

Lunch prices are $2.20 at the Primary and Elementary schools and $2.40 at the Middle and High Schools. Some students may qualify for free or reduced lunch pricing. Please visit sbschools.us for the free/reduced application under the food services tab.

National Fire Prevention Week

• Make sure your home escape plan meets the needs of all your family members.
• Smoke alarms should be installed inside every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
• Know at least two ways out of every room, if possible.
• Make sure all doors and windows open easily.
• Have an outside meeting place at a safe distance from your home where everyone should meet.
• Practice your home fire drill at least twice a year with everyone in the household.
