THE HAWAII SKETCH COMEDY FESTIVAL
RETURNS TO THE DORIS DUKE THEATRE!

2016 performer line up and schedule announced!

HONOLULU (February 18, 2016) – IT’S LIKE “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE IN HAWAII!”
Following an amazingly successful premiere, the Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival is BACK and ready to drop major LOLs at The Honolulu Museum’s Doris Duke Theatre March 31st and April 1st!

“This year’s event will have two live shows instead of one,” says creator and director Kimee Balmilero, “Both will have live sketch comedy performances, live music and original comedic video shorts. I’m so excited!”

“Live From Honolulu” will be the opening night show of the festival on March 31st at The Honolulu Museum's Doris Duke Theatre. This show will feature professional writer, comedian and founding member of the IFC sketch comedy TV series â€œThe Whitest Kids U’ Know, “ Sam Brown. Other opening night performers include: Ann Maddox (The Office, Two Broke Girls, Birthday Boys), STEENK (an LA based sketch comedy duo), special musical guest Chris Lind and Beet Box - Honolulu’s newest sketch comedy troupe and this year’s HISF Startup Team. “Besides wanting to make people laugh, we want to empower local writers, comedians, actors and artists. The creative entrepreneurs of the world!” The HISF Startup Team is matched with a professional writing mentor in Los Angeles and meet via video conference once a week to prepare for the festival. The March 31st show will also have an opening reception in the Honolulu Museum’s courtyard starting at 6pm with food and drink for purchase as well as live music provided by Simple Souls.

The April 1st “Two Scoops Funny” show will focus on highlighting local acts such as Honolulu based sketch group Goof Troop Riot, special musical guest Erika Elona, videos by OC16’s “Almost Local" and works from Improvhi, a local comedy group who performs once a month at The Pagoda.  “I grew up watching ‘Rap’s Hawaii’ and listening to ‘The 3 Local Boyz.’ I’m excited for the opportunity to showcase more Hawaii based talent!”

This year’s festival expects to reach over 500 highly engaged comedy lovers and will also host educational workshops and panels designed to provide guidance to aspiring writers, comedians, actors and other creative entrepreneurs. "We wanna give these ART-Preneurs the credit they deserve," says Balmilero.
