We would like to share with you some good news about the New York Arabic Orchestra that is very promising for the organization’s future growth: The New York Arabic Orchestra (NYAO) is now officially recognized by the U.S IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization! This is the result of two-year process to reorganize on the infrastructure level in order to be better organized and accountable so that the NYAO can move forward on its mission which has not changed:
- To preserve and promote Arabic culture through music
- Foster support and understanding among different cultures
- Forge a new perspective of music performance and composition in the U.S.
To secure this new tax status, a terrific team of volunteers stepped in to facilitate. In the process, the organization has assembled a dynamic new Board of Directors to oversee this important stage of our growth. We have been focused on establishing the NYAO as a non-profit entity so that it has financial status for future organizational development.
What is our goal in this effort?
To stay true to the NYAO vision:
- Concerts of classical and contemporary Arabic music
- Educational outreach programs
- Train musicians to become performers in Arabic music
- Support our youth and affected communities around the world
- Advance the reach of Arabic music in the U.S. and abroad
To accomplish our vision, we will be communicating more regularly to expand our community including partners, venues, donors, board members and sister organizations; and above all, establish and maintain a solid financial base from which to grow the NYAO.
The Board of Directors has diverse experience in finance, communications, arts, business, fundraising, operations and production. The current Board is comprised of NYAO’s longstanding artistic director Bassam Saba; Mohannad Aama (Treasurer); April Centrone, executive director; Hanna Hanna (Secretary); and Liana Hawes (Secretary). The Board is now planning to secure primary financial support for basic NYAO activities and operations.
With our foundation more firmly in place, we are ready to launch our artistic programming, which will largely stem from funding support from private donors, corporate sponsors, grants and our member community at large. Specifically, a concert series will be a crucial step in raising the necessary start-up funds needed to kick-start and maintain operations and realize our goals. Your support is most appreciated as we make this strategic pivot and launch into a new era of activity and growth. On behalf of all of us here and the entire Orchestra members, we want to wish you a beautiful holiday season and we look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
Thank you very much for your kind support.
