Sunday Chat: Can't or Won't, Which Word Do You Use?
I'm enjoying a cup of my own special coffee blend, a half and half mixture of Peru and French roast. What's in your "cup of dreams" today?
First I have to give a shout out to Marie Forleo, my teacher and mentor, for the inspiration of today's topic. Marie pointed out some interesting facts about the words, can't and won't that I want to share with all of you.
We have all spent a great deal of time using the word can't, as in "I can't because I don't have the time" or "I can't because I don't have the money" or the ongoing list of can'ts that removes us from doing a lot of things. Here's the problem with using the word can't all of the time, it makes you a victim. The word can't doesn't hold you accountable for your actions, it lets you off the hook and gives you an excuse.
Now let's substitute the word won't, "I won't because I don't feel the need to free my time up for that" or "I won't because using my money in that way doesn't interest me." Do you see the difference? Won't gives you your power back and makes you responsible for your own actions.
We all understand the power of our thoughts and our words along with the affect it has on ourselves and others. The amazing thing about these two words is how one can move you out of the "victim" thought to the I am "responsible" for all of my actions thought.
My challenge for you this week is to see if you can catch yourself saying "can't" and substitute "won't" instead. See how it makes you feel. Changing to the word won't will allow you to bring forth your true feelings about a situation and will also make you reorganize your words before you say them. Challenging? Yes it will be but I know all of you are up for it!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this and how you feel by the end of the week. More responsible and able to stand in your power? I hope so and as always you can comment directly to me by hitting reply, or on our FB page or the Let's Chat post on the website. Share the love of this Chat with someone who might need it today and as always know that all of you are loved and appreciated!
Sharing the love with all of you,
