Dr Richard Schloeffel OAM & the ACIIDS group of doctors have responded to Medical Board of Australia's Public Consultation. In a progressive and extensive submission, they have outlined the facts, including exposing bias in definitions used by the Board.
"Complementary medicine, unconventional medicine and emerging treatments are disparate issues and should not be grouped together or covered under the one definition as proposed by the Board.
The areas of concern, "complementary and unconventional medicine and emerging treatments" are too diverse in nature to be considered together and too ill-defined to be practically meaningful. The lack of a clear definition of “complementary and unconventional medicine and emerging treatments” creates the risk of arbitrary interpretation on an ad hoc case by case basis that is a denial of natural justice and open for abuse.
The proposed new guidelines would reduce the ability of patients to have access to the medical treatment of their choice, increase costs, and of significant concern, potentially result in patients seeking treatment from unqualified practitioners or overseas clinics. This will reduce patient safety and increase risk to the public.
The MBA is threatening the existence of integrative health, disenfranchising millions of Australians who choose complementary medicine. Integrative medicine is scientific, as such the MBA's illogical and sustained condemnation of it will negatively influence consumer rights to health care choice in Australia. Integrative health is world’s best practise and is the future of medicine."
Download the submission. We encourage you to read and spread the word - you may forward via email, social media, text and phone calls to your elected members.
Have you submitted to the consultation? We encourage you to do so! A simple response outlining the effectiveness and importance of natural medicine in your life and family would suffice (submissions close June 30th).
It’s back 👏👏👏 July 8th in Sydney
For a second time, the owner of Sydney's Nel Restaurant, Nelly Robinson, is partnering with some of the industry's most exciting young chefs to raise awareness for Lyme & funds for the Lyme Disease Association of Australia.
Inspired by his mate & fellow chef, Kirk Haworth's battle with Lyme, Nelly has put together another amazing evening with snacks on arrival & a six course tasting menu with matched wines.
Each chef has been tasked with the challenge of incorporating lime into their recipe 😃.
The evening will start at 6.30pm & will be led by Nel Robinson while Matt deGroot of Nova 96.9 fame will inspire guests as MC for the night.
For Tickets - email email@example.com & quote Lyme dinner. Make sure you head to their FaceBook page and give them some love. 👍

! We look forward to speaking with you!
It's been a month full of highs and lows. First, thank you to everyone who took action during the recent election. Whether you can see it or not, it does make a difference. Also a big thank you to all who reached out to us disappointed that Labor's election promise of $2.8M towards an integrated research platform for early diagnosis & personalised treatment did not have a chance to be carried out. While we understand everyone's deep disappointment and despair, please know that all is not lost. We only lost one major supporter with the retirement of Senator Claire Moore but Jacqui Lambie is indicated as 'WON' on the ABC election results
. Welcome back Senator Lambie! Please know we are in regular contact with Minister Hunt, he is listening and the initiatives he has already put in place are underway and of course we're asking to fill in the gaps of everything we need. Our longstanding supportive Senators Reynolds and Siewert remain engaged, supportive and available to us.
We will continue to advocate for the integrated research platform as that's what Australian Lyme patients need and deserve.
Your help is needed!!
We'd like to make a special call out for support for our Community Choice Raffle. It's super easy to buy online and/or order ticket booklets. Your support means everything!
Finally, our sincere gratitude for the support and backing from Senator Claire Moore for many, many years. She was persistent and dedicated to get us the support we deserve. We wish you the most beautiful retirement.
'It takes a village' :-)
Yours in Green,
Sharon Whiteman | CEO (Interim)
