2019 END OF YEAR WRAP

HAPPY SPAGHETTI HOLIDAYS!

2019 has been a big year for Spaghetti Circus

As 2019 begins to wind down, it’s important to take a moment to acknowledge what’s been achieved this year and express gratitude to everyone who has helped make it happen: staff, students, performers, families, board members, volunteers, donors, funding partners, project partners, business sponsors and supporters. Thanks to each of you for being a part of the Spaghetti journey.

Some of 2019’s highlights:

  • new Youth Ambassador program launched
  • the Annual Shows in June where every ‘Spaghetti’ had the opportunity to perform, with technical production by our very clever Performance Troupe members
  • the Big Top went to Splendour In The Grass, hosting the ‘Bails of Hey!’ world premiere
  • ‘Bails of Hey!’ later had its own amazing season in the Back Shed in October
  • the All Ability All Stars cabaret at Brunswick Picture House, celebrating International Day of People with Disability 2019
  • the Intergenerational Tour that saw ‘Spaghettis’ perform for pre-school kids and residents of aged-care facilities across our region
  • the Super Mighties’ Schools tour
  • the Coraki Project with the wonderful Coraki Public School and community
  • the Mighty Mini Twos took over at HOTA for 'Kids Take Over: Save the World'
  • Performances at Byron Writers Fest, Mullum Music Fest, Shearwater’s Spring Fair, Festival of the Imagination and Mullum Farmers Market
  • a German Wheel Masterclass with Wolfgang Bientzle
  • emerging artists ‘Tumbian’ performed at Brunswick Picture House and at Music in the Valley
  • a Sporting Schools extravaganza that saw Spaghetti Circus visit 19 schools from Murwillumbah to Coraki and everywhere in between
  • and last but certainly not least, back in June we ran the 2019 Annual Giving Campaign to raise much-needed funds to purchase a vehicle to take Spaghetti Circus out on the road across our region to deliver our outreach and performance programs. We raised more than $16,000 - wow!

Now the exciting news

The amazing level of community support means… we bought the truck!! It has recently been delivered from Melbourne to Mullum HQ and is awaiting a special little Spaghetti signage makeover before her official launch coming soon.

The Youth Ambassadors have decided to name her ‘Gertie’ and she’s going to make a huge difference in spreading Spaghetti’s work across our region and beyond.

We hope Spaghetti Circus has brought as much joy to our community as we have received this year. We’d like to wish you all a very merry festive season, happy holidays and a really good rest!

2020 promises to be even bigger, Mullum Circus Festival is back 2-4 October with the national training program running September 28 to October 1. It’s going to be huge!

On a final note...

To leave you in the spirit of gratitude and giving, we wanted to share something special that happened back in November. At Spaghetti Circus, we strongly believe in a culture of giving and we love it when our young people lead the way. As fires were raging close to our community, Spaghetti’s Performance Troupe were showcasing their new work 'Bails of Hey!' at Mullum Music Festival. After each performance, they put the bucket around and ended up raising $500 in donations. Within moments of the final tally being counted, Performance Troupe members decided to donate those funds, split 50:50, to BlazeAid and the Mullumbimby District Neighbourhood Centre, two organisations helping those impacted by the fires. Nice one 'Spaghettis' and all of the Mullum Music Festival punters who gave generously.
Spaghetti Circus acknowledges the people of the Bundjalung Nation, traditional custodians of the land on which we live, love, work & play.
Spaghetti Circus is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
Massive thanks to Lainie Anderson and family for your generous support of Spaghetti Circus!
