NC BUILD-PAC, the political action committee of the North Carolina Home Builders Association, met throughout the 2013-2014 election cycle to make contribution decisions to pro-housing candidates. As a member service, the recipients of NC BUILD-PAC contributions for the 2014 election cycle, which includes all contributions made by NC BUILD-PAC to candidates appearing on the general election ballot.

The decision to support a candidate was based on several factors, including but not limited to previous support of the industry, historical voting records, staff evaluations, and a candidate questionnaire provided by the North Carolina Free Enterprise Foundation (NCFEF). Thus, the candidates that received a financial contribution have a track record on issues of importance to the home building industry.

It is important to your livelihood and to the future housing needs of the citizens of North Carolina that pro-housing candidates are elected to office. Please take the time to vote and encourage your family and employees to do the same.

The National Association of Home Builders operates a federal political action committee (NAHB BUILD-PAC) to financially contribute to candidates for federal office who support housing issues in the US Congress. The NAHB BUILD-PAC Board of Trustees is composed of members appointed by the states and contributions to federal candidates from any state must be initiated by that state's trustees. Jonathan Elliott from Fayetteville and Gary Hill of Greensboro serve as North Carolina's two trustees.

Incumbents are judged on several factors including voting records compiled on key votes, sponsorship of legislation important to the housing industry, membership on committees important to our issues, and responsiveness to our members and the NAHB lobbying staff. Challengers and candidates for open seats are judged on their prior records and their likely predisposition to support our industry.
During the 2013-2014 cycle, the following candidates for federal office in North Carolina, appearing on the November 4th general election ballot, received contributions from NAHB BUILD-PAC:
  • Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-2nd District)
  • Congressman Walter Jones, Jr. (R-NC-3rd District)
  • Congressman David Price (D-NC-4th District)
  • Candidate Mark Walker (R-NC-6th District)
  • Candidate David Rouzer (R-NC-7th District)
  • Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC-8th District)
  • Congressman Robert Pittenger (R- NC-9th District)
  • Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC-10th District)
  • Candidate Mark Meadows (R-NC-11th District)
  • Candidate George Holding (R-NC-13th District)
NCHBA would strongly encourage each of you to take this information into consideration when casting your vote. Important decisions vital to housing's continuing recovery will be made in Washington in the new Congress and it is critical to elect pro-housing candidates.
